Re: A Brief CracK Of Light in General Therapy? Topics
Stark Raving Sane has definately grown on me, when I first heard it I thought it sounded like a OCFA b-side but I like it a lot now. The verses are great, the intro riff is cool, even the chorus is getting better, mainly due to Neil’s drumming, I think. The man is talented, no question.

Andy’s grandfather was killed in WW2 and is buried in Belgium. So yeah, the lyric probably wasn’t intended to be funny.

Re: The Leftover Songs in General Therapy? Topics
I reckon there will be some kind of standalone release - the fact that none of them were released with the LITSOTTT single is telling.
Maybe they will come out with those weird re-recordings they did in 2010 of ‘Meat Abstract’, ‘Prison Breaker’ etc… that would be great.

Hmm, it seems it is possible afterall for users to migrate all “likes” onto their band page.
Kerbdog managed it recently with the help of a friend of theirs (who happens to be in a band called InMe, remember them?)
Anyway, I’ve asked the guy for tips…

Ah, that explains it. It is annoying though. You’d think whoever set up the unofficial fan page would defer to the real thing!!
The one with 16k likes is the weird auto-wikipedia page, fair enough.
But whoever owns the “Therapy? - The Band” unofficial page, should really close it down - it’s sparse and out-dated, yet still shows up prominently during a search. Quite confusing to the casual facebooker who wants to check out the band.

Yeah, I haven’t hit “like” on the unofficial page, yet whenever I make comments on the official page, they automatically end up on the unofficial one?
Strange set-up, I wish they’d (facebook) get it sorted. I did hear somewhere that they were looking at it, as most bands seem to suffer the same issue.

He he, the Kerrang review was written by Simon Young, also a T? fan and has posted here before, I believe.
Still, nothing wrong with liking a band you are reviewing!

Artimus, I respect that you don’t like the album and that’s fair enough. However it seems to me that you talk about music as being a uniformed comodity. You say Marlow doesn’t tell a story like other instrumental bands’ songs, and that it doesn’t fit in with the album.
I like that it doesn’t sound like other bands and that it doesn’t sound like anything else on the abum.
Isn’t that the point in music as an artform? To be true to the artist who created it, and not just follow a template laid down by others?

Yeah, you’re right actually. Troublegum is a sonically excellent album which doesn’t need adjusting.
How about the 2nd disk have the b-sides tacked on after the Troublegum pre-production demo’s? Would be nice to hear the album tracks “looser” as they probably were before they recorded them again a few weeks/months later specifically for the album.

I would really like a Troublegum re-issue a la Everything Must Go / Holy Bible in a hardback triple gatefold digipack
Disc 1 : Troublegum remastered - with new liner notes and photos etc
Disc 2 : B sides and rarities - ShortSharpShock, Opal Mantra, Trigger Inside and Nowhere B Sides for example
Disc 3 : DVD of Andy Michael and Chris Sheldon discussing the making of the CD plus live footage from the time e.g TOTP, etc.
If they release this in 2014 - That would be EPIC
That’s the spirit!

The missus loves Marlow, which leads me to think T? should release it as a single. Normally when she hears a new track and likes it, it becomes a monster hit a few weeks later…

Yeah, The Buzzing really does get better with each listen.
Sounds like the bigger, older and wiser brother of ‘Other Peoples Misery’ from SP-YF.

Re: A Brief CracK Of Light in General Therapy? Topics
I remember Michael saying that he hated albums longer than 45 minutes as his attention would wander. So I think this philosphy extends to Therapy? albums as a result.
In all fairness though, I do find that quality control is important and a lot of the “classic” albums happened to be released in the 1970’s as a result of only having the space to fit >45 minutes of material on a vinyl. A lot of newer albums which have more than 60 minutes do tend to stretch one’s patience!

Listened some more…
Ghost Trio sounds, musically, like Fear of God from OCFA, except better, with a nice drone-y outro section.
Why Turbulence reminds me of Enjoy The Struggle: not a bad thing.
Both these songs seem like ‘growers’ to me, pretty much like the whole album. By this time next year, it could well be a bona-fide classic :-D

Re: A Brief CracK Of Light in General Therapy? Topics
The single and BYWYAF are stellar Therapy-esque melodic tunes, these two are far more in keeping with typical Therapy? than the rest of the album.
Plague Bell: didn’t like it but it’s definately growing on me after repeated listens.
I can hear strong similarities between Magic Mountain and Marlow, but the latter really hits the mark unlike MM. I really hated MM, but I like Marlow so much I think it would make a great single. Very strong track.
The first 90 seconds of The Buzzing reminds me of Other Peoples Misery, and then the crazy dub section comes in… love it.
Get Your Dead Hand continues the dub theme, a real stand-out track. Indicitive of how they always try something new, and invariably, it works. Certainly no Troublegum part 2 here :)
Ghost Trio or Why Turbulence: As I type this, gotta admit I don’t remember what either of these sound like! Yet to make impressions, obviously.
Stark Raving Sane I didn’t think much of when I heard it on the Metal Hammer cd, but the riff has really grown on me after, again, repeated listens.
Ecclesiastes is a pure trip, reminding me of the French band Air (which I mentioned in another thread). Beautiful stuff, one of the best tracks.
So far I’d rate the album above Crooked Timber. It’s definately a Top 3 contender. :)

Yeah, the warm boom of the floor tom on LITSOTTT is fantastic! I love the heavy bass and dub throughout the album as well. The actual sound itself is killer.

Re: “A Brief Crack Of Light” cover, tracklisting and release date revealed! in General Therapy? Topics
Favourites so far:
Marlow, Get Your Dead Hand Off My Shoulder & Ecclesiastes. Heavy dub element on The Buzzing and GYDHOMS, sounds great!
I think Marlow (instrumental, btw) would make a great single, it’s a very uplighting tune.
Could easily crossover into the mainstream.
Ecclesiastes is just beautifully mellow, reminds me of trippy French outfit Air :-)

It seems that pre-orders from 2011 are after been forgotten about.
Something similar happened to me very recently with my house insurance. It ran out on Jan 1st, so I renewed just before christmas, received the automated receipt but no paperwork. I contacted them this week and they implied that because it was renewed just before the years-end, they had overlooked it!
Maybe Global have overlooked the 2011 orders?

Re: “A Brief Crack Of Light” cover, tracklisting and release date revealed! in General Therapy? Topics
Got an email from Global about 30 mins ago to say both the cd and vinyl has been shipped to me… sweet!
Usually pre-orders are despatched on the Thursday before general release on the following Monday, but to get it shipped more than 2 weeks in advance is superb.
Granted, it will probably take about a week to arrive in Ireland from the UK!

Yes, I don’t have the dvd either. I’ve not emailed Marc about it since before christmas as I believe he’s busy.

Re: New single? in General Therapy? Topics
Yeah, will probably just burn a cdr with the track (after the album comes out), print off the artwork and there you go, I’ll have the single.
In the internet age, I just don’t see the point in releasing just one track, without b-sides. Different if they released a one sided 7” for example, I’d buy that for it’s uniqueness. But a download without exclusives? Hmmm…

And to think that piece of class evolved from a pretty standard instrumental, “Treacle Feet”, played back in 2009!
Amazing.
