Re: A kerbdog reflection moment in Other Bands & Artists

Well, they’re not really ‘going’ as such.

They recorded their last album in 1996, though it didn’t get released till a year later and they were then promptly dropped by their record company. They played their last gig in 1998. They reformed for a few one-off shows in 2005 and they still play every now and again, though they say it’s only for a laugh and have no intention of quitting their day jobs.

Re: A kerbdog reflection moment in Other Bands & Artists

They’ve played some gigs in Ireland over the past few years. In ‘05 and ‘06 especially, they played a lot. I also saw them before Christmas last year. Just gigs though, no recording.

Re: Pitchshifter in Other Bands & Artists

Hard to know.
I’m sure there are some people who would watch a recent Therapy? performance and think it was pretty pointless compared to their earlier industrial-tinged stuff. They’d say the band lost themselves after signing to a major.
I don’t know much about Pitchshifter to comment too much, is their recent stuff really that lacking?

“And the dirt is gone!!”

Sounds like he’s refering to Metallica’s last few albums!

Re: Divers in Other Bands & Artists

I must say the 4 downloads are quite rocking! Sometimes drifting a little too close to The Killers territory, but very good nonetheless. I’ve stuck ‘em on a cdr with the rest of their singles and it just about constitutes a full album! 39 minutes or so.

Re: Divers in Other Bands & Artists

I’ve sent them on Simon, ignore the first two though, they fucked up for some reason so I re-sent them.
6 tracks altogether - 2 from the split 7” (1995) and 4 from the Chevron EP (1996).

Re: Divers in Other Bands & Artists

Yep, once I get home and load ‘em to the PC I’ll bang ‘em on.

Re: Divers in Other Bands & Artists

Just really bumping this topic back up.

Has anyone got those ‘new’ tracks that were downloadable on the Divers page? I’d like to get them.

I have transferred the 2 tracks that were on their first release (a split 7”) from vinyl to cdr, and also have the “Chevron” cd single, if anyone wants the tracks. I thought they were a good band, including the stuff that Fyfe doesn’t play on. I’d be interested to know if they’ve released anything recently.

Re: Haveyou ever met a rock star and not even realised it? in Other Bands & Artists

That’s cool - the Glasgow Apollo show is probably the most famous ac/dc gig - it’s the one on the “If You Want Blood” live album from ‘78.

The ambient noise and then the riff before Thumb by Kyuss kicks in i still love and gives me a little tingle down the neck.

Shit, I forgot about those guys - “Gardenia” has an intro that rocks like a mo-fo. Actually, the entire song rocks like a mo-fo!

Re: Iron Maiden in Other Bands & Artists

The Maiden history part 2 is already out, man. Though it’s not called that, it’s on the 2nd disk of the “Live After Death” dvd which came out a couple of months ago.

Re: Best Intro To A Song in Other Bands & Artists

No love for “Punishment Kiss”?
It sounds a bit pansy on the album, but try and check out a live version from the Illosaarirock Festival in 1997 when they used it to open their set and it sounded massive. Swirling feedback loops and cymbal crashing = a good intro in my book!

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists

I think long albums hinder a band more than help. Soundgarden would be an example - I think all their albums were too long and didn’t quite get the acclaim the band deserved. “Superunknown” is a brilliant album but not many people would have the patience to sit through it’s 73 minutes in one go! Imagine if they cut it back to 40 minutes, I think they would really have taken off. I know they were popular, but never in the same league as Nirvana, for example.

AC/DC have always released 40 minute albums (apart from the longer, and shitter, more recent albums), same with Maiden etc.. I just think there’s a lot to be said for good quality control!

Re: Iron Maiden in Other Bands & Artists

Legends, yes. Money grabbing gits, definately.

How many best-of comps is that now? 3 or 4? That’s not including the numerous live albums they have, which basically serve as best-of’s anyway.

I know the first 3 listens are free, but c’mon, the die-hards and collectors will buy this for their collection in droves. As for this release being “for the kids” - if they’re not going to buy one of their other best-ofs, why will they buy this?

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

Listening to Nirvana a lot lately, I’d forgotten how good they were.
I made up a best-of that’s on rotation in my car…

2. School
3. Negative Creep
4. Sifting
5. Big Long Now
6. Stain
7. Dive
8. Aneurysm
9. D-7
10. Ain’t it a Shame
11. Terretorial Pissings
12. Lounge Act
13. Breed
14. In Bloom
15. Lithium
16. Radio Friendly Unit Shifter
17. Scentless Apprentice
18. Rape Me
19. Heart Shaped Box
20. Pennyroyal Tea
21. Sappy
22. You Know You’re Right

Dirty Deeds or Highway to Hell? Opinions, eh? I’d consider those to be the two weakest albums from Bon’s era! :)

Hey KJC, on a totally un-related matter, check the pics in my myspace page - there’s one from the Foggy Dew last year before the Olympia gig - http://www.myspace.com/fyfe79

Re: Best AC/DC Album? in Other Bands & Artists

Just thought I’d dig up this topic, since recently buying the new 3dvd “Plug It In” set. Anyone else get this yet?

It’s pretty much the follow up to “Family Jewels”, but concentrates more on live material than the promo stuff. I’ve only had a chance to watch it once so far, and it’s cool, but it’s a shame that the gigs are split up across the 3 dvds (the ‘Rock Goes To College’ and ‘Live Sight & Sound’ stuff, for example), it would have been nice if they put full performances in their entirity on there, like Iron Maiden did on their excellent “Early Days” dvd release.

Re: Black Metal in Other Bands & Artists

Was it Cannibal Corpse who had THE best song title of all time…

“Entrails ripped through a virgins cunt” ?

I think it charted at no. 5.

Re: I just bought… in Other Bands & Artists

I’m getting into Korn recently, having never liked them when they were ‘popular’. Listening to their Issues album especially.
I recently bought Neurosis - Given to the Rising. Not as good as their previous stuff, quite hard to get into.

I saw them support Therapy? in Dublin in ‘97.

Not good.

I have Rest’s album at home! I saw them supporting Cult of Luna at the Voodoo Lounge last year, and bought it. A little toooo instrumental for me… plus it was a bit strange when their drummer told me afterwards that he wasn’t into the music at all!

Re: Isis in Other Bands & Artists

Yeah, I’ve most of their stuff, most of it on colour vinyls.

“So Did We” - first track from Panopticon is one of the best songs you’ll ever hear.
