Re: Where is our next female rock hero??? in Other Bands & Artists

Well, literally it means to play rock music. A ‘next female rock hero’ would be a female who plays rock music and becomes an idol, a very respected person and/or a courageous person. You could also say a musician ‘rocks’ if what he/she does turns you on (not necessarily sexual). So yes, Bjork and Tori Amos (and Erykah Badu and Tracy Chapman and Lou Rhodes of Lamb) can definitely rock some people’s worlds.

To become ‘female rock hero of our age’ you’d need to get a lot of respect by playing rock music. Quite frankly I have no idea who that should be these days. Alanis Morissette???

Actually there’s no real active female rock hero in my book, or it should be Skin who is about to release a solo album.

Oh, and personally what I heard and saw from Heather Nova was quite boring but that’s a matter of taste. And Sister, where did you see Krezip live?

Re: Where is our next female rock hero??? in Other Bands & Artists

There’s one difference between Skin and Andy: Therapy? still rocks, Skunk Anansie is gone. And Rehab to me is like a rock song with more apparent dance influences. Yes I’ve seen Skin several times with Skunk Anansie and if she continues to do something like that, she definitely belongs to the top 3 of current female rock stars.

No I’m not joking about Jacqueline Govaert, you shouldn’t think all they do is like ‘I would stay’. She definitely rocks more than Heather Nova.

Bjork doesn’t really ‘rock’ except for the Skunk Anansie version of Army of Me. Nevertheless she’s a great musician.

Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering) has the most beautiful clear voice I’ve ever heard and she also looks cool (even more so without make-up) but every time I see the band I still get quite bored by the music.

And Courtney Love (for the Dutch: Kut Cobain), well I don’t know. I like some of the songs that Hole did but the appearance of a sleazy bitch doesn’t turn me on. I don’t think Courtney really meant a lot to the music world, besides being Kurt’s wife.

Did anyone mention Sonic Youth yet?
Oh, and L7 :)

Sarah Bettens (K’s Choice), Jacqueline Govaert (Krezip).
Well dunno about ‘female rock hero’, I guess that’s Janis Joplin and nobody before or after that. Skin unfortunately doesn’t quite ‘rock’ anymore as far as I heard her work with Maxim. I agree that the singer of Guano Apes rocks. Another female rock singer that rocked was Simone Holsbeek of the Cords.
