Johnny Rotten on Coldplay… in Other Bands & Artists

This man speaketh the truth :

Rotten slams ‘humourless’ Coldplay

(Monday June 16, 2008 09:45 AM)

The Sex Pistols frontman Johnny Rotten has slammed Coldplay for creating boring music - insisting he feels sorry for fans who pay to see the “humourless” group perform live.

Rocker Rotten, real name John Lydon, is convinced the Yellow hitmakers take themselves too seriously - and is adamant their music suffers as a result.

He says, “I pity the poor b*****s who have to watch them. They are utterly humourless.

“I met them a few years ago, said hello and realised they were just men in anoraks. They looked like a gang of little poncy masturbators.

“There is no fun, they don’t offer joy. Their music has a couple of quite nice tones here and there but it’s a box of tosh sold to slightly inadequate, half-baked people.”

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

Been cruising YouTube for some old favourites this morning.
Strike of The Beast from Exodus brought back good memories , as did Springtime by Leatherface.

Maybe the surgeon told him to desinfect it with alcohol and he misunderstood ?

Re: Best Intro To A Song in Other Bands & Artists

Where to begin on this one…

Big fan of the long , bombastic intros. Led Zeppelin are the kings of great intros imo and at a first thought special kudos to Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell and Pink Floyd’s Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
Today by Smashing Pumpkins is not too bad as is Sunshine of Your Love by Cream , it just rocks.

To pick one it has that spoken intro from the theme to The A Team !

Re: Download 2008 in Other Bands & Artists

Shame they got The Offspring on the bill.

They could have gone for some real punkbands , like Busted or McFly !

Re: Favourite Artwork/ Album Cover/ Packaging in Other Bands & Artists

Sepultura’s Chaos A.D. in the metal box with an additional Sepultura flag inside was a nice one.

Apart from albums , I liked the idea of Metallica’s Live Shit: Binge&Purge ‘tour’ box , stuffed with the videos , tour/photobook , snake pit pass , triple live CD’s and the scary guy stencil.
Bought it around ‘93 when it came out and i remember paying the equivalent of about 120 euro for it , which was a fortune for a student those days.

Re: What was Number 1 in the UK charts when you were born? (Just a bit of fun) in Other Bands & Artists

Just typed my birthday into some obscure astrology site , and am told that in Chinese astrology my sign is ‘Dog of Metal’ :D

Re: Albums out the same month that you were born? in Other Bands & Artists

Woohoo , in my month of birth albums were released by Johnny Cash , Led Zeppelin , Santana , Bob Dylan and Emerson , Lake & Palmer !

Kinda explains my love for booze and dope , I guess :D

Re: Albums out the same month that you were born? in Other Bands & Artists

Where do you find all that stuff ?

Only thing I came across is that I share a birthday with Jane Austen and Ludwig van Beethoven.
Oh , and with the Boston Tea Party ! ( not the band , the event )

US Charts : The Tears of a Clown - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles.

Re: Concept Albums In General in Other Bands & Artists

Brave by Marillion is a great album.

I’m normally not into this melodic rock thingy but Brave is a classic and The Great Escape is one ‘ell of a track.

Re: TAKE THAT! in Other Bands & Artists

Just to draw you a picture , Macker , I rather cut of my genitals with a blunt and rusty razor and eat them than listen to Take That.

Does that answer your question ?

Re: Worst bands at the moment. in Other Bands & Artists

Dublin Death Patrol.

As much as I used to like Testament , the stuff that DDP serves up has been done to the death by now , it’s just so old.
Would have expected something original given DDP’s impressive line-up but I got bored after 30 secs listening.

Radiohead - In Rainbows in Other Bands & Artists

Anyone here downloaded the new Radiohead already and if so , did you give them any money for it ?

Have no intention of getting it myself but some of my colleagues did and paid them anything between nothing and a tenner.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

Same here , hooch.

When I said they will prob become big I meant that they have all the ingredients to be picked up by a big label soon and propelled into space as the next best thing by hyping it all up on MTV and the likes. The teenagers will love it for sure.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

Been listening to The BlackBox Revelation a lot these days. Although only a two-piece ( drums , guitar + vocals ) , these Belgian dudes are just awesome. Bit like T? without the bass.

Also got a burned CD from Silversun Pickups thrown on my desk earlier. Not too bad although a bit too Breeders-esque for my liking.
Can see them becoming pretty big pretty soon though.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

Last couple of days I’ve been listening to Urge Overkill - Saturation.
After cleaning out the car it was the only CD left in there so I’ve been playing it driving to and from work.
Had almost forgotten how great an album it is , absolutely love it.

Re: Worst bands at the moment. in Other Bands & Artists

Lately I developed a sort of love-hate thing with Amy Winehouse.
At the moment I’m on the hate side again where I think she’s an overrated junk bitch.

Gilo - Blood In Blood Out

Honours also to :
Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero
The Dragons - Here Are The Roses ( thanks Ronald for putting me in that direction )

Maybe I’ll add Neon Bible by Arcade Fire to that list soon.

Re: Joshua Tree Reissue in Other Bands & Artists

Yes.

As much as I dislike Bono , still think it’s a great album with some gems on it.
Will probably put it on my X-Mas or birthday list.

Re: Joy Division film in Other Bands & Artists

Saw the movie over the weekend and I think it’s excellent. Sam Riley puts down a very good Ian Curtis.
Heard the movie gets bad critics in the States , but then again what do they know about good taste ?
When the movie was launched in the USA , Peter Hook was allegedly asked to reform JD and do a once-off gig for it , but replied that the last time he checked their frontman and subject of the movie was dead.

Also bought the DVD from The Future Is Unwritten over the weekend , it’s just out here. That and Control made my weekend a pleasant one.

Re: underrated bands? in Other Bands & Artists

How on earth are Weezer underrated ? They had their hits in the top 40 and had all the kids jumping around to them on the big festivals.
Overrated more like , although that destroy my sweater song was great when put into practice…

There’s some real underrated bands that are way better than anything mainstream nowadays but don’t make it because they don’t have a big commercial record company behind them.
There’s a band in Dublin called Still Life who can play anything anywhere but stick to their own written stuff and the odd Maiden or Motorhead cover. Too bad they don’t get any airtime because all the stations are too busy with another shitty boyband Louis Walsh threw at them, probably raping another 70’s classic , or plugging U2s The Joshua Tree again and again as the best thing since sliced bread.

If ever in the money , first thing I’ll do is an Irish T? gig with a Still Life support slot. Things would never be the same again ! :)
