Seeing Iron Mask at the end of this month in a small rock cafĂ©, yay. Then the next day I’ll be working at Groezrock festival. That’ll be a tough one…

Also, check out the trailers for the upcoming movies ‘Iron Sky’ and ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ (indeed, I’m not making this up)… They won’t even have budget for an excuse here…

Starship Troopers 3 is on tonight, not seen it but I’ve been told it’s just so bad it’s bad.
Terminal Velocity was on last night but I couldn’t be bothered to stay up to watch it, most Charlie Sheen films are so bad they’re good.
It was run on a far too low budget… As a fan of the franchise that really bothered me, it’s still enjoyable because of the brilliant satire however, which is the exact reason most people don’t ‘get’ the movies (a large group of people was actually convinced the movies were nazi propaganda). The whole idea of a Sky Marshal being a pop star all at the same time is just genius… imo.

I think I should get extra points because Jan Goossenaerts died of ‘unnaturally old age’ :p

Re: My dad doesn’t talk to me (anymore) in Chit-Chat
I’m not too concerned he doesn’t like me or anything, I just think he has a problem communicating and doesn’t always get that if he has problems, shutting himself off isn’t going to make him feel better (which is why I try to interact with him a lot and show interest when he says something). The comparison with how you feel is very interesting ‘cos I think that’s exactly my dad’s problem too. They just passed a law that means he has to work for more years, he has reason to be angry! I posted the op in the vibe of the disappointment of his initial reaction and had a rather bad day overall which is why it might have seemed worse than it actually was - he’s probably thought it over and seems to have gotten the message in the meantime, which is a good thing ‘cos my mom is currently in Ireland and things would be pretty quiet if the two of us didn’t talk! Thanks for your help.

My dad doesn’t talk to me (anymore) in Chit-Chat
All day long I’m trying to get my dad to talk to me, but he doesn’t react to anything I say, no matter what subject I bring up. He’s and interesting person (when he wants to be) and talks a lot when we have company, so it’s not like he’s introvert (all the time), but he likes to think of himself as misanthropic either way just because he has (or likes having) that negative attitude. He’s either reading his newspapers (which he HAS to have read or he’ll go nuts!) or staring at the tv, and just doesn’t pay any attention. Most of the time, he doesn’t even hear me (or pretends not to). Right now I just walked up to him to tell him this and got the same reaction. It’s not even like he’s mad at me at something. When I complained (a lot) he simply laughed it off (given I was laughing a bit too ‘cos I wanted to bring it to his attention in a positive way, while making clear it really bothered me) and said ‘maybe I’m not someone who talks a lot’ (which I denied given he’s always the loudest at parties and whatnot) and then ‘I don’t talk to your mother much either.’ I said ‘That doesn’t help me much’ and that was the end of it. Given, often he would remark facts or funny stuff he found in the newspaper, and I would always react to him trying to get a conversation going, but often the conversation doesn’t get much further than a few (like literally, 2 or 3) sentences.
Is my dad turning into a sour, closed off old man? Should I just put my energy in different things? I’m 20 now, and I’m starting to think maybe at this point, my dad just might not be so important to my evolution in life anymore and I should just go my own way, (which doesn’t mean I don’t care for him anymore of course).

Re: what was the last gig you went to? in Chit-Chat
Yay, I nearly froze to death on the way there but I made it to the Thin Lizzy gig at Antwerp last Sunday. They were much better than at the Lokeren gig last summer, and I already liked them there. The ‘new’ guitarist is brilliant, he really made the feeling of a Gary Moore concert come to life again at times. All was perfect save for some guy who threw beer on stage and (I’m just assuming it was the same guy) also threw almost an entire pint over my head as well, and I didn’t even care for that much, lol. It was good seeing Ricky again, too, and I believe he spotted my Therapy? shirt in the crowd, there’s no way to be sure though, lol.

The Presidents are a lot of fun live, I’ve seen them twice so far (once at Lokeren, the other time at Pink Pop Classic when Therapy? was also there).

I second that, I need to see the sequels as well because apparently Burt gets a more prominent role in them. And that while I was almost 100 percent certain he would die in the first movie.

Hell yeah, just found out Thin Lizzy is playing at the Biebob, very close to where I live, soon. It’s extra cool because in the Biebob you’re always very close to the stage.

Re: Movies That Are So Bad They’re Good in Chit-Chat
I don’t think Tremors was bad, it just tries (and succeeds) to be a hilarious horror / comedy which I think is the category of movies that fits this thread best :p Nothing is of exceptional quality, but it’s still really entertaining. Especially Burt is downright hilarious.

Re: Whats the next gig you want to go to? in Chit-Chat
Want to see Therapy? in the AB… It’s been so long =) I also wanna see Iron Mask because their new album is brilliant and they play together with At Vance, another brilliant band. Still have to wait for those gigs like 4 months or so though.

I’ve always hated the x-files.
Another one that fits this category just fine: all the Tremors movies.

Re: Whats the next gig you want to go to? in Chit-Chat
Ok, I’m going to PPM Fest anyway, despite a lack of time, no one to accompany me, the fact I’m trying to save money for an Annihilation Flying V and lack of a train back, but hey, it’s Iron Mask and Gamma Ray we’re talking about!

Re: Whats the next gig you want to go to? in Chit-Chat
I want to go to the Power Prog and Metal Festival but no one wants to drive me and I’m not paying 65 euros to leave early and miss the main acts (Gamma Ray!) + unfortunately I’m not allowed to drive in weekends with my temporary license >.<
As for Ian Astbury, it’s possible he’s mental but when I saw them at Pink Pop Classic (the same day as Therapy?, Gary Moore, Fun Lovin’ Criminals) his ‘in between song banter’ was hilarious.

Yes! While I like seeing people of around / below my age at gigs because it’s good for the future of rock / the bands themselves I have great respect for ‘older people’ I see around as well because those who listen to stuff or don’t hang on to their ‘style’ are quite often people who just got into something for reasons other than the music itself, imo and if you’re still rocking at a later age it kinda proves you’re not like that because I believe ‘your style’ matters less to yourself as well as your peers as you grow up.
