Re: Whats the next gig you want to go to? in Chit-Chat

Seeing Iron Mask at the end of this month in a small rock cafĂ©, yay. Then the next day I’ll be working at Groezrock festival. That’ll be a tough one…

Get Your Dead Hand Off My Shoulder is quite captivating and might work as a single because it really sticks with you once you’ve heard it. Same goes for Before You With You After You.

Re: 03.04.12 Therapy? @ AB in Therapy? Live

I think I got what you were saying, at parts I was just theorizing about how the guys make their set lists because I think it’s interesting :) Was the German show the one where the support cancelled? I thought for a moment it was an April fool’s joke because it claimed they had started off very radically with some of the songs some people didn’t like :p Maybe they plan to return in the summer to play those new tracks they didn’t play this time so more people would come down to get a chance to hear them rather than not go because they just expect the usual festival set. See? Positive thinking :p

Btw they have to play Diane to remember people to vote on the Tijdloze :p

Re: 03.04.12 Therapy? @ AB in Therapy? Live

I remember they played the whole Crooked Timber album in the AB on the Crooked Tour, so I was kinda expecting that too, but as I said before I don’t mind them playing the same songs as long as they play them well and with heart and aren’t just going through the motions (I didn’t have the feeling they were). I realize leaving Screamager and Nowhere off would be difficult but it’s indeed possible to scrap Die Laughing (especially) and Isolation (even though I love this track) and Nowhere and Screamager then wouldn’t take much space. Making setlists is harder than it seems though. As far as getting tired of playing certain tracks go, Nick Holmes’ (Paradise Lost) response to the same question was “if the crowd’s pumped, so are we!” and I think it’s the same for T? and most bands. ;) The kick never gets old and I can imagine those tracks taking the guys back to their - as something they created that in turn ‘created them’ so to speak, those songs must have a huge emotional meaning to the guys as well, at least, so I would imagine. That said, the crowd *was* pumped during the tracks of the other albums as well, which I really liked! Polar Bear, Die Like A Motherfucker, If It Kills Me haven’t always been there so I feel they already did well with the set: the end of the Crooked Tour (those 3 gigs with Ricky) saw Church Of Noise, Lonely Crying’ Only and I Am The Money as well as tracks from the first 2 albums (Fantasy Bag, Meat Abstract and Punishment Kiss I think) jump back into the set and I think the guys want to play at least 2 songs off an album they want to put in the picture on a gig: if they were to play 1 song from each every time I don’t think people would remember it so easily and that wouldn’t be very effective. At least that would be my reasoning. So far I’ve heard songs off all the albums except Suicide Pact - You First (which is a crying shame) but I know they played some of it at the Water Rats. I think you have to see it more as a long-term thing, on the long-term, Therapy? does *really* well compared to most bands, believe me :p

Re: 03.04.12 Therapy? @ AB in Therapy? Live

Drats, how could I forget that track, I love it!

I’m sure they’re proud of the new material, but perhaps might have felt some songs just didn’t go down so well live. Some songs suck on an album, but are great live, and the other way around. Believe me 6/10 is good for a band with T?’s discography to fall back on. Annihilator only played 3 new in a set of 20 or so songs, U.D.O. did even worse playing only 2 new songs off Rev-Raptor in an hour-long set. I also think they were rather left off in favour of creating a setlist with songs from more different albums: I’d heard If It Kills Me, DLAMF and Polar Bear live before, but only a couple of times. After all these albums still exist and the guys can be proud of them as well and willing to put them in the spotlight. Notice how Andy mentioned the name of the album before every song: the crowd’s reaction to these tracks was great IMO. If Andy says after that we’ll play some older stuff, it’s simply because it was the truth :p

Also, 4 Troublegum songs might seem like a lot, and it is, but I also gotta mention Screamager and Nowhere are both really short songs ;)

Re: 03.04.12 Therapy? @ AB in Therapy? Live

Just got back from a kickass show; it’d been a while since I missed the last time they came to Belgium, so I was pumped, and the guys delivered as always. One of their best shows I’ve seen (out of 14 or so now I believe) only topped by Crammerock and the Lokerse Feesten during the OCFA tour, I think. They played something like a ‘best of set’ and half of the new album, which was totally cool with me ‘cos they nearly blew the roof off at times. In no particular order:

Nausea, Teethgrinder
Screamager, Nowhere, Die Laughing, Isolation
Stories, Diane (no luck An :p)
Rust, If It Kills Me (YAY!)
Die Like A Motherfucker, Polar Bear (I LOVED the fact they played these two tracks.)
Exiles
Ecclestiastes, Living In The Shadow Of The Terrible Thing, Before You With You After You, Ghost Trio, Why Turbulence

Maybe I missed Marlow and Stark Raving Sane a little, but the show was kickass and so was the crowd (so many stagedivers! Nearly as bad as Crammerock a few years back! :D) so I really can’t complain! I trust I’ll still hear those tracks somewhere later this year maybe, at one point. Remember to slap me if I missed one :p

Re: Cologne 29.03.2012 - i get older… in Therapy? Live

Which is a great way to keep playing songs from the time they were a 4-piece, imo, unlike Channel Zero who had the same problem and solved it by letting Marcel Koenen on the stage but then gave up and stopped playing their older stuff entirely.

Yes but longer Therapy? sets are a noble enough goal to make up for it :p

A-yup, let’s hope it survives until tuesday when I will see them! Great set. By now I have so much respect for Andy and co they can pretty much do anything they want to, and this is definitely refreshing.

Re: Ballads in General Therapy? Topics

Therapy?’s ballads are always great: Six Mile Water and Gone most of all imo, so I don’t mind them making them at all. More than one per album would be a weird turn to take, but hey, maybe that’s the next stunt they’re gonna pull, who knows :p

I’m even more looking forward to the Belgian show now. I’ve got nothing against Troublegum, but hearing the half of Troublegum every time takes away too many time to hear some variation. The setlist was always way too predictable. I know a lot of “fans” come just to hear the Troublegum hits and might be dissapointed, but it’s the A Brief Crack Of Light-tour after all, and seeing all the postive reactions in here, I think it was a well-weight risk.
This is an amazing surprise, I hope they’ll keep it up for the rest of the tour. Also, I’m so looking forward to a Therapy? show in Belgium where they don’t play Diane… please make it happen :)

They didn’t play it at the AB during the Troublegum tour already, hah! :p Set sounds great with Polar Bear and If It Kills Me included, except for the Buzzing.

I tend to think if a band were to play songs they don’t want to play the gig would be worse even if you wanted to hear them though so I’m generally happy with setlists as long as I liked the performance of the songs they did play.

Re: A Brief CracK Of Light in General Therapy? Topics

SPYF was pretty radical, but it still had great riffs and grooves, can’t really say that about the Buzzing. I’ve just begun to skip it, I hoped it would get better, but it doesn’t. Let’s hope they *don’t* play it live. If you manage to appreciate it though, all the better! If it were up to me, everyone would think A Brief Crack Of Light was the greatest album ever xD

Also, check out the trailers for the upcoming movies ‘Iron Sky’ and ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ (indeed, I’m not making this up)… They won’t even have budget for an excuse here…

Starship Troopers 3 is on tonight, not seen it but I’ve been told it’s just so bad it’s bad.
Terminal Velocity was on last night but I couldn’t be bothered to stay up to watch it, most Charlie Sheen films are so bad they’re good.

It was run on a far too low budget… As a fan of the franchise that really bothered me, it’s still enjoyable because of the brilliant satire however, which is the exact reason most people don’t ‘get’ the movies (a large group of people was actually convinced the movies were nazi propaganda). The whole idea of a Sky Marshal being a pop star all at the same time is just genius… imo.
