Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
Field Commander Cohen: Tour of 1979 by Leonard Cohen.
Best three quid I ever spent.

No Code is one of my favourites, which probably makes me weird, but it is.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
There’s a compilation show on BBC Four with lots of people singing lots of Burt Bacharach.
I’m sorry I’m so boring, everybody. I’m nowhere near as rock ‘n’ roll as the rest of you.

The Man Who Sold The World by David Bowie.
Wonderful album! I’m currently riding the rails to it.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
Lately, it’s mostly been…
Something Else!!!! and The Shape of Jazz to Come by Ornette Coleman, got both for five quid. Good stuff!
Live Songs by Leonard Cohen, fuckin’ amazing. I’m slowly working my way through his complete album collection, doing about one a week in preparation for September.
Music To Watch Girls By, nice compilation of 60s pop stuff.
My eyepod threw up a bizarre mixture of Shameless and A Brief Crack of Light earlier. Strangely, they kind of go together.
The odd bit of Simon & Garfunkel and The Kinks too.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
Just got Ishoku-Sokuhatsu by Yonin Bayashi in the post. Fucking amazing. About to listen to it again.
Then I’ll be moving on to Kirikyogen by Kuni Kawachi & Friends, which is similarly amazing.
Anybody who likes anything vaguely psychedelic or proggy, check out some of the stuff that was coming out in Japan in the 60s and 70s, I’ve not often been disappointed.
It’s also surprisingly cheap to build up a nice collection.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
Listened to Beyond Magnetic a few times today. Still very happy with it for the four quid I spent. Rebel of Babylon in particular is a very strong track.
Tonight it’s been…
Freedom - Neil Young
Best of The Doors (2 CD version)
I’m cooking, so I need stuff I can sing along to really badly (read: drunkenly) before anybody else is home.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
My first 2012 release arrived today. Metallica’s Beyond Magnetic.
For a bunch of leftovers, it’s really very good. It’ll keep me busy for a week until ABCOL arrives anyway.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
Actual playlist order, Boom Boom Pow into Band Aid II.
Yes, really. Band Aid II.
On another note… Nurse was the last T? album that I didn’t own. Finally got it a week ago and it’s hardly left my stereo, it’s pretty fuckin’ great.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
Mostly the Christmas shite that they’ve been playing at work. My boss is currently in mid-life crisis mode, so the playlist switches between the likes of Boom Boom Pow by the Black Eyed Peas and then on to Saviour’s Day by Cliff Richard.
It is agony.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
Just having a listen to some of the stuff from Hard Rock Hell. Living in the Shadow of a Terrible Thing gets better every time I hear it.
Kind of putting off listening to Before You… as I’ve not heard it before, but I will anyway.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
As much as I dislike U2 as people, I can’t deny that Achtung Baby is a pretty decent album with some very good songs.
I’m currently listening to my neighbour playing guitar slightly too loud. He’s not that bad but I wouldn’t have minded a little bit more sleep.

Just found my copy of Jehovahkill by Julian Cope, lost it around Christmastime. Possibly the best day of my life.

Mostly listening to Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and a band called Shearwater that I accidentally found about a month ago and really like. Will have to get one of their albums soon.

A couple of tracks from the new Thurston Moore album.
Pretty sure it’s going to be great. Going to buy it as soon as it comes out.

Very nice.

Second disc of Music Through A Cheap Transistor earlier, Mondo Cane by Mike Patton just now.
Good album for a shitty day! It’s all windy and cloudy and horrible.

Got my Live on I-5 this morning, listened to the soundcheck disc twice. Excellent stuff.
Saving the main bit for later.

Re: Record Store Day 2011 in Other Bands & Artists
I spent about that much on Pearl Jam’s Ten boxset when it came out. Great to have the live album and the two on vinyl and the DVD, but a bunch of the other stuff hasn’t been looked at since I unwrapped it. The Ozzy one at least sounds like it’s not full of postcards and things.
Although if you look at it differently, I could have easily paid £100+ for three new LPs and a live DVD.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
Technodon is their reunion album from 1993, very electronic but not so synthy. Sounds to me like the nine or ten years between albums lead them to some interesting places.
I still love the stuff from the 70s and 80s, but this is the one I’m always coming back to.

Technodon by Yellow Magic Orchestra
I’m still hearing new things in this album every time I listen to it. Absolutely flawless. Just can’t describe it.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
Smashing Pumpkins live at the Roskilde Festival in 1997.
Great set of Mellon Collie songs with no fancy stuff, just two guitars, a bass and a bunch of drums. :D

Still waiting on my Live on I-5, ordered it from the website so I could get the soundcheck disc.
Can’t wait to hear a version of Waiting for the Sun that isn’t from an audience recording!

Good way to end (or start ending) a Sunday.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
From Soundgardenworld, seems that the bonus disc is only available from them for now.
Confusingly, it seems that HMV is doing a bonus DVD with three songs from their recent Lollapalooza show. I think I’ll wait until they end up on Youtube.
I got two emails from them when I ordered last night, one confirming the order and another saying “thanks for ordering Live on I5” and that had the link for the song download. The link has just worked for me again so if you can’t find it in your inbox then I’ll PM you the link from my email.
