Re: Whats on your mind right now? in Chit-Chat
It would be a lot better if it were David Mitchell and Charlie Brooker presenting all of it and not about 70% Jimmy fucking Carr.
I also could have lived without the Come Dine With Me portion.

Meetings at 11am, 12pm and 1pm - someone kill me now lol
I know that feeling! Last Friday I had a meeting from 9.30 to 11.30 then another 1 until 3.30. Today I am luckily meeting free but still have shitloads to do. Which is why it’s such a good idea for me to be spending valuable time on WOM :-)
Hope you get through them ok Fiona, nearly the weekend now!

Re: Death Race 2010 in Chit-Chat
Her actual death would not be exciting, thank you very much! I know I’m not the only WOM member looking forward to seeing Hole next month. Although I can understand why she’s declared her persona dead.

Re: Whats the next gig you want to go to? in Chit-Chat
I really want to see Stone Temple Pilots but I didn’t get a ticket for the June gig because I thought I was going to see them at Download the weekend before. However, now I want to go to Sonisphere I don’t think I can afford Download, so maybe I should get a ticket…
The other complication is that I’m seeing Cypress Hill the night before the STP gig and I don’t actually live in London. Decisions, decisions.
First week in May I’m seeing Hole on the Wednesday and Gogol Bordello on the Friday. Woop! I also want to see Pennywise the week after but I don’t think anyone I know will want to come with me and I don’t think I’m quite bothered enough to spend the money to go on my own. Then I think I’m being taken to see Ray Davies the week after that.

Re: What’s your WORST movie everyone? in Chit-Chat
Re. Chuck: Me too! It’s so dark yet entertaining yet thought-provoking and intelligent at the same time and just all round brilliant; so many cool and interesting ideas. I have an English Literature and Creative Writing degree and if I could choose to write like anyone it would be him. I really can’t actually pick a favourite book, I just love his whole body of work.
Re. NBK: Yes, I remember the moment well and I agree. There are several moments like that for me. One of the many great things about the film is the awesome soundtrack, which is undoubtedly my favourite that I’ve ever heard and not only are the songs brilliant but the way they are used is ingenious.
Re. Age on first experiencing things: I think that’s a very fair point. It’s obviously impossible to know how I’d feel about BC or CITH if I’d been older when reading them but I’ve said the same thing about other films that people seem to love and I don’t get, eg. Dirty Dancing; can’t imagine myself liking it but maybe if it had caught me young, who knows?
Re. The Bell Jar: Another favourite of mine, also read it as a teenager and also felt the same way you did. Although I can still relate to a lot of it now to be honest, particularly the fig tree metaphore if you remember it specifically? That’s kind of how I feel about my life right now. Although maybe I shouldn’t admit that…

Re: What’s your WORST movie everyone? in Chit-Chat
Don’t worry, I’m sure you are. Also, while there’s some things I love and couldn’t relate to other people not liking, there’s a lot of things I love that I can completely understand why some people would think were shit and that particular film and book definitely fall into the latter category.
Hmmm, think I first saw The Breakfast club when I was 13 or 14 and Catcher in The Rye probably about the same, though I’m struggling to remember when I first read it to be honest.
Just to retain a tiny bit of credability in your eyes (although also running the risk of looking a little stalkerish) I just had a little nosey at your profile and have spotted my all-time favourite film and all-time favourite author, them being Natural Born Killers and Chuck Palahniuk.

Oh dear, I must admit that The Breakfast Club is one of my favourite films and Catcher In The Rye is one of my favourite books :-/

Re: What’s your WORST movie everyone? in Chit-Chat
Now that there’s a ‘so bad they’re good thread’ I’m taking this one back to pure bad, not in a good way, films; mainly because I can’t believe I forgot to mention Australia. That was a truly painful cinematic experience. I kept hoping it would end but it seemed to go on and on forever. It was kind of remniscent of Titanic in that way but actually worse.

Re: Sean, where are you? met at water rats gig in Chit-Chat
Hi Dan,
I believe the gentleman you refer to goes by the name of man-fish on here. You can find him f you click on people and search that name. He’s quite a regular visitor so not such a longshot…
(unless of course there are two guys named Sean who were at all three Water Rats gigs and staying in a nearby hostel)

There seem to be so many classic horror type films that have been remade now. I’m not personally a big fan of the genre (although I have seen the original Wickerman) but it still annoys me; just seems like a blatently futile, artless, money making exercise.

Though there was one I forgot the title of. It’s about a bunch of women who all want to commit suicide and it’s about some writer or other. But it had good parts and is in no way as bullshitty as CA’s was.
Do you mean The Hours and the writer Virginia Woolf? I haven’t ever got round to seeing it despite having every intention of doing so.
Nor have I seen Charlie’s Angels but I’ve no desire to.

Re: What’s your WORST movie everyone? in Chit-Chat
I’ve since remembered two offensively bland, unenjoyable and pretentious piece of crap films I wasted some of my life watching:
-Closer
-Matchpoint
Both solely focus on relationships of characters I didn’t like or care about and seemed to think they were very deep but I didn’t understand why. The awfulness of Matchpoint was particularly upsetting as it’s a Woody Allen film and Woody Allen used make great films. What was he thinking?
I guess at least stuff like MI2 isn’t pretending to be deep. I’ve seen Gosford Park but I don’t remeber it very well which probably means I was fairly indifferent to it.

Re: What’s your WORST movie everyone? in Chit-Chat
I totally agree with Fiona and Sarah about Lost in Translation. I have a few friends whose tastes are similar to mine and loved it but I just found it really boring. Some of the cinematography was good but any decent plot, characters, dialogue, humour, meaning etc. all seemed to be lacking in my opinion. Clearly not something I should have bothered going to the cinema to see. The other film my friends loved and told me I would love but didn’t is Donnie Darko. Am I alone in not enjoying that film?
Obviously neither are the worst film I’ve seen though. Competitors for that title which spring to mind immediately are:
-Speed 2, Cruise Control
-Tape
-Mission Impossible 2
-Blair Witch Project

Re: sex poll in Chit-Chat
Well being relatively new to the board I have never seen this thread before but since you did drag it up, my answer is
Andy, Andy, Andy all the way. No way of telling who would be ‘best’ of course but he’s certainly the band member I’d most like to sleep with.
I rather like a big guy, particularly if he’s a big Irish guy, particularly if he’s a big Irish guy who happens to be the legend that is Andy Cairns :-) I do actually think he’s pretty hot as well as a genius.
