Re: Weirdest place you’ve found something Therapy? in General Therapy? Topics
My wife was in a hairdressers on Botanic Avenue in Belfast a couple of days ago. She said there loads of artily shot photos of different bands that were framed and for sale around the walls… one of which was Therapy?!
Apparently Therapy?’s picture cost £95 if any Belfast WOMbles are interested!
I’m afraid my purse strings don’t stretch that far ;-(

Ah, that explains it. It is annoying though. You’d think whoever set up the unofficial fan page would defer to the real thing!!

Re: “A Brief Crack Of Light” cover, tracklisting and release date revealed! in General Therapy? Topics
There’s a few bands like that. The Mountain Goats have albums under “Mountain Goats” and “The Mountain Goats” etc.
I do wonder why T?’s official Facebook page is missing the ? mark though!

Yeah, I definitely agree that The Buzzing sounds very SPYF-ish. I’ve come around to it now I think… really loving Before You With You After You now as well.

Re: A Brief CracK Of Light in General Therapy? Topics
The standout track for me so far is “Why Turbulence”. Great lyrics. Funny to see the progression of Therapy?’s lyrics over the years… songs on Troublegum, Nurse, Infernal Love etc were all about being on your own / getting dumped / twisted relationships / guilty messed up sex etc. But now the lyrics are stuff like “I have food, shelter, a family who love me and who I love back” - but where do you go from here? Other songs in recent albums have been about similar things… “Clowns Galore” (What do we do now that we are happy?) and “Unconsoled” (we made it to the suburbs) etc etc. Back to “Why Turbulence”, I just think it walks the right line between humour and darkness that always made T? stand out for me… very like Beckett in fact (“Big Black Hooded Perambulator” is a line from the Beckett play Krapp’s Last Tape). “Birth Was The Death Of Me” - good line. Read an interview with T? on the internet that said it’s called “Why Turbuelnce” because that’s what a leading physicist said he would ask God if he met him (apparently turbulence can’t be properly scientifically explained).
Other fav track so far is Ecclesiastes. I kept waiting for a monster riff to kick in that (thankfully) never came. I’d like to hear T? do more songs in this style tbh but can’t see it happening any time sooon. The expression “There Is Nothing New Under The Sun” comes from Ecclesiastes (“everything under the sun… is absurd”).
Will have to give it a few more listens before I form an opinion overall. I know they’ve said otherwise but I do think it follows in a similar vein from Crooked Timber (which I liked) in terms of a filthy bass, similar thematic concerns, similar “feel” albeit with more of a dub influence (more “space to breathe” as a WOMble on here put it very well). I agree that “The Buzzing” is a bit jarring. But so far I’d definitely rank ABCOL above NANE, OCFA, and HA.

Re: “A Brief Crack Of Light” cover, tracklisting and release date revealed! in General Therapy? Topics
ABCOL has been greyed out on Deezer now and says “FEB 6” in big letters beside it. Waaah.
I see “Living in the Shadow” with artwork is streamable on Spotify now though

Re: “A Brief Crack Of Light” cover, tracklisting and release date revealed! in General Therapy? Topics
They nearly always refer to T?’s longevity as well eg “15 years in the business”… “18 year years later and still strong”… “an incredible 20 years of consistent output…” etc.
They often refer to their lyrics too eg “wordsmiths…” “smart lyrics”… “thinking man’s metallers” etc.

Re: Songs that sound like Therapy? in General Therapy? Topics
I always thought Enjoy The Struggle sounded like “Walk” by Pantera. I think Andy admits as much himself in those stories behind the songs. On the flipside, Lostprophets first single back in 2001 sounded like Punishment Kiss:

I’m gonna resist the temptation to listen to the previews I think… would be too much of a tease!
Only a month to go!!

Re: Screamager just on 6 Music in General Therapy? Topics
Lamacq just played Therapy?’s cover of “Teenage Kicks” there as part of his “lost 45s” series. Read out the press release insert too together with the fact that Merry Fucking Christmas was given out to the first 250 people at Belfast and Dublin. Cool (and obscure!!)

Re: Lyrics interpretation in General Therapy? Topics
I’ll get my GCSE English hat on.
Trawlers (as in fishing boats) use nets to catch fish (and other things) from the murky depths of the sea below. So maybe the person “trawling” their way through this grim school is collecting their own things from their own “murky depths” (painful memories, emotional trauma etc).
That’s the best I can do!

Re: Therapy? on stage with Bruce Dickinson in General Therapy? Topics
I was at that gig. It was at the Mandela Hall in Belfast for a special 6 Music show. Bruce Dickinson presents the rock show on 6 music which is why he was introducing the bands / getting on stage. It was 1st May 2004. Run a search on the discussions here and you’ll probably find a thread on it.
Funeral for a Friend were the support and gthey got mercilessly booed.

Re: What was your first “new” Therapy? album? in General Therapy? Topics
My first was Semi Detached - I bought it in Dublin on its day of release when we were down there for a cross community project. I think there was something special about the box if u bought it the first week… maybe an image of the gemmil stamped into the plastic or something. I remember a friend I was down with bought the special SD vinyl set at the same time as me. Must see if he still has it!
