Re: Therapy for Damnation Festival in Therapy? Live

From a quick google search it seems that it’s a fairly small metal festival held in Leeds for the last few Octobers.

Judging from acts on in previous years I’d say Therapy? would fit the bill alright. The timing would probably suit the new album release too

I go on about this quite a lot, but they didn’t play Belfast on the Semi-Detached tour - which was even more annoying for me at the time cos I was yet to see them at that point :(

Kudos for trying to book them anyway Kill Hill. Maybe you were “fobbed off” because a gig is already planned or something? Fingers crossed anyway

Re: Therapy in Belfast!!! in Therapy? Live

Why do people have to get me all excited with misleading thread titles like that? :(

Re: All album performances? in Therapy? Live

All Tomorrow’s Parties / Primavera are doing this too. So far the line up is

SLINT - SPIDERLAND
COMETS ON FIRE PERFORMING BLUE CATHEDRAL
MELVINS PERFORMING HOUDINI
SONIC YOUTH - DAYDREAM NATION

I’d love it if Therapy? did a playback performance. The closest I’ve ever been to one was seeing Blur on their “singles” tour

Re: Calling Out Therapy?!!!! in Therapy? Live

They’ll probably headline Dublin soon. And if they don’t why not head up to Belfast with that special someone or a few mates?

The whole thing would only cost about 100 EURO. Whenever a big band tours Europe they hardly ever play NI, had to go down to Dublin for Tool - which was amazing - and I’m heading over to Glasgow for Nine Inch Nails in a few weeks which I can’t wait for. Turn it into a jaunt!!!

Also, you think not headlining in Dublin one year is bad? I got into Therapy? around Christmas ‘96 and it was March 2000 before they played where they’re actually from! Thankfully have seen them many times since though…

Hope it’s a good movie - think the last one was about the history of the NI punk scene…

Re: theydontallstealcars in Therapy? Live

He was like MON’s Golem:

“In Jewish folklore, a golem (âåìí, sometimes [as in Yiddish] pronounced goilem) is an animated being which is crafted from inanimate material. In modern Hebrew the word golem denotes “fool”, “silly”, or even “stupid”, “clue-less”, and “dumb”, and literally means “cocoon”. The name appears to derive from the word gelem (âìí), which means “raw material”.

Origins of the word
The word golem is used in the Bible to refer to an embryonic or incomplete substance: Psalm 139:16 uses the word “‘gal”mi”, meaning “my unshaped form” (in Hebrew, root words are defined by sequences of consonants, ie. glm). The Mishnah uses the term for an uncultivated person (“Ten characteristics are in a learned person, and ten in an uncultivated one”, Pirkei Avoth 5:7). Similarly, Golems are used today primarily in metaphor either as brainless lunks or as entities serving man under controlled conditions but enemies in others. Similarly, it is a Yiddish slang insult for someone who is clumsy or slow.

Earliest stories
The earliest stories of golems date to early Judaism. Adam is described in the Talmud (Tractate Sanhedrin 38b) as initially created as a golem when his dust was “kneaded into a shapeless hunk”. Like Adam (whose name literally means “red [clay],”) all golems are created from mud. They were a creation of those who were very holy and close to God. A very holy person was one who strove to approach God, and in that pursuit would gain some of God’s wisdom and power. One of these powers was the creation of life. No matter how holy a person became, however, the being they created would be but a shadow of one created by God.

Early on, the notion developed that the main disability of the golem was its inability to speak. In Sanhedrin 65b, it describes how Raba created a golem using the Sefer Yetzirah. He sent the golem to Rav Zeira. Rav Zeira spoke to the golem, but he did not answer. Said Rav Zeira, “I see that you were created by one of our colleagues; return to your dust.”

Yeah, I kind of regret looking up the recent setlists beforehand - I think it’s why I didn’t enjoy it so much as others.

I feel like the kid who opened his Christmas presents a week early :(

Re: Therapy? | Belfast | June 4/06 in Therapy? Live

Lightning Bolt in Lavery’s was the loudest gig I’ve ever been at - ears rang for days…

I thought it was a good show - I can kind of see what MR POO! was saying about the acoustics not being as good though. A bit disappointed they didn’t play Neck Freak as well, but Femtex was great.

Saw Oppenheimer, Panda Kopanda, Tin Pot Operation, and I thought La Faro were awesome.

By the way, I’m really glad you got in Colin - here’s to many more Therapy? gigs for ye :)

Re: Therapy? | Belfast | June 4/06 in Therapy? Live

Haha, I know. He really didn’t go about this the right way.

Even if he did get in at 3PM, that’d mean about 6 hours of having to stand around not looking like a 14 year old. And if he goes near a drink and makes a fool of himself… it’s “Game over man, game over!” to quote Aliens

I’ll be down at 5.30 or so.

Just looking through recent setlists from other threads to see what to expect - if they play Neck Freak live I’ll be a very happy man.

I think Sprung, Turn and Accelerator to kick things off are a cert.

Re: Therapy? | Belfast | June 4/06 in Therapy? Live

Honestly mate, best of luck getting in. I’m sure many people have been following your ordeal like Soap Opera ;)

This reminds me of the first time I saw Therapy? - I was 17, they were playin’ the Empire on the Suicide Pact tour. My 19 year old mate was a massive Therapy? fan who’d got me into them a couple of years before and was going with me. I was a bit worried about getting in (being underage) but it ended up I got in and he got chucked out for bringing in a bottle of vodka with him :o

Somewhat dampened the night, but I got to lick the top of Andy’s head and get a photo with Michael
