Re: IRAN in Chit-Chat

Did you hear about how the Iranian authorities are lifting an ancient law so that the Irish women can travel to the away leg? They still won’t let Iranian women in though, they say its because the Irish women won’t understand the swearing and gestures of the Iranian men. Nuts.

Also, bars in the UK will be opening at 6AM for the world cup, but not in the Republic! muwahahaha! for once its good to be up North!

Re: the sad truth in General Therapy? Topics

Innocent X climbed through my window last night and tried to touch me… but then i put shameless on and he left

Whenever I saw the artwork for shameless and heard the b-sides on ‘i am the money’ i was thinking ‘here we go again’ but now after listening to it intensely for the last month Ive realised its the only album I dont skip a track on, its right up there with Nurse and troublegum in my opinion.

Re: Which is you favourite b-side? in General Therapy? Topics

I love Suing God, I think that line ‘Darwin get out clause’ is a classic peice of T? black humour. Its definately my fav b-side.

Re: Belfast in Therapy? Live

Hey Iris
I guess if you are there over the weekend and want to go out, the best places would be the Limelight, Katy Dalys, Auntie Annie’s, and the Empire for rock / alternative venues. They’re all around the centre of town. You could even get a return ticket to Dublin for about 20 pounds to spend a night at a hostel there, Im sure it would be worth it. Im sure T? will play Dublin around the same time as Belfast so I might even go down. The only problem is the fact that T? are playing Queen’s University, and I think from about 7pm doormen check for student ID, so either you’ll need to head in early or get someone to sign you in. I’ll find out what the arrangements are and post again to let you know.

Re: Belfast in Therapy? Live

Hey Iris
yeah Queen’s is just a 5 minute walk from there. Also going to see Mogwai play there on Nov 6th - so many gigs to look forward to now!

Re: northern ireland in Chit-Chat

The war in Northern Ireland has very little to do with religion, sometimes it’s just used as an excuse or to incite violence, but in reality it is because the two communities are so totally juxtaposed. Someone earlier said protestants and catholics worship the same god - why don’t they just get along?

Its because Ps & Cs go to different schools, have different jobs, live in different places, go to different bars, have different holidays etc etc, they know very little about each other and so are fearful and resent each other. Theres a famous myth that Catholic parents used to tell their kids you could tell who a Protestant is because their eyes will be too close together and vice versa!

However, while the Holy Cross scandal is totally abhorrent and we still have the odd murder (just at the weekend a jounalist was shot dead in the back whilst walking with his wife) considering over 1000 people a year were shot or blown up in the 70s I think NI has made massive strides. Sinn Fein in the same government with the Ulster Unionists 10 years ago would be unthinkable.

I also think the ‘war’ proper is over, after the events of sep. 11th it would be difficult for the IRA to go back to terrorism with much public support, and also after 3 of its members were arrested in Columbia.

Finally, I know all the stuff about the assembly must bore the shit out of people living in the mainland UK, but these next few days ahead are absoloutely vital, because if the assembly tumbles down, there will be many people who will try and take hold of the situation to suck NI back down to the level it was when I was a kid (step forward Mr Paisley), and if it is felt in the Republican community that mainland Britons are ignoring the problem of Ireland, they launch a bombing campaign on the mainland, so lets pray the politicians (as useless as they are) can work something out.

Re: Concert tshirts in Chit-Chat

Hmm maybe the thing I heard was a changed version of your story, or maybe everyone going to see moz started wearing smiths t-shirts cuz they thought theyd get in for free, and he got pissed off.

Well at the end of the day theres definately a link between Moz, smiths t-shirts, and concerts!

Re: Singles + HMV = Wankers! in General Therapy? Topics

I agree that HMV are a pile of second hand wank but in my local HMV both singles were £2.99 but no 7 inch.

I think Therapy?s record company are even worse though, like you said about the 2 cds instead of 1 firstly, but also the fact that both gimme gimme gimme and i am the money seemed to be put back week after week after calling into HMV every monday morning. Although it did make it even sweeter when i finally got ‘em…

Re: Concert tshirts in Chit-Chat

Over here if a band play in town, especially if they’re not so well known like Therapy?, if you have a t-shirt by that band, you wear it.

Although I did hear that when Morrisey played (im not sure if it was Belfast) he made anyone in the crowd who was wearing a Smiths t-shirt turn it inside out, which i thought was kind of arrogant / cool!

Re: the ideal crash in Chit-Chat

The first thing I thought when I heard about the attacks on the radio when I was in work was that shameful joy (or whatever) that turnface talked about, but when I got back home half an hour later and saw that it was actually HAPPENING, I felt sick and shamed. Just watching the events on TV made you want to get up and actually DO soemthing about it.

I think what pisses people like turnface and Nausea and myself too sometimes is the attitude of anericans like one person caught up in the disaster who said ‘America is a fucking Whale - lets bomb the shit out of these worm countries’. OK so emotions were running high, but it shows the ignorance of a lot of the US public who dont know the background of the problems of countries theyve only heard of.

And on a personal note, like Alan said, here in N Ireland Ive never seen people so affected by a terrorist attack. Its almost as if in Ireland its ‘normal’, but in the US its unthinkable.

Re: Anticipated albums..(Who’s ready to step up?) in Chit-Chat

I think someone already mentioned Rage, but the most disappointed Ive ever been after waiting for an album was when I got The battle of LA, i just cant listen to that shite after waiting for it for so long. I have to say I was disappointed with SPYF too but Shameless seems more promising.

Ive read the book and thought it was really funny, especially the bit when he has an erection staring at Bono on stage. Has anyone heard the song Patrick Bateman by the manics about the book? Its so cheesy

I was at Reading, I thought Frank Black was amazing. I was only at the front for … trail of dead but decided to hang around for Frank - i forgot just how good he was. Did anyone catch Gary Numan’s show? It was hilarious.

MTV2 played teethgrinder live at some festival the other day, looked like it was from the semi detached tour. They were slagging off the spice girls before hand which was kinda funny.
