I find that when “bands” self produce, BANDS means THE GUITARIST and that means QUIET DRUMS.

The best self produced albums i can think of are Dream Theater. Some self produced albums tend to be a bit lacking in space.

Good production doesn’t necessarily mean Expensive. You just need good mic placement, a good room sound and a good mix is all.

I don’t want to blow my own trumpet but Exit Plan to me sounds great and we had really cheap mics, one computer and recorded in a barn !

Troublegum is pristine. The intro and lead up to the first verse in Screamager just sound awesome. Dunno how you get that kind of clarity !

I agree. IF they produce if themselves, they need an engineer who knows what he’s doing. Although why they dont just get Chris Sheldon in…He’s had a hand in some of their finest albums IMO.
