I love “Deluded Son” in General Therapy? Topics

Excellent riffs, great lyrics, this song really hits a spot emotionally.

But what I really love are the backup vocals in the second and thrid refrain. With “one” there is one extra vocal that kicks in that I really *feel*. It is so strage that such a minor detail makes that a song great.

Ah, it’s been a while since I listened to that band, and now I am in love again. Thank you for all the great music, T? !!!

Re: OCFA what do you think? in General Therapy? Topics

Not too be picky, but since you’ve been using it so much: it’s “evolve”, and it can go without “themselves”.

Re: OCFA what do you think? in General Therapy? Topics

I got it on wednesday. I can’t give you my full opinion on it yet (I am also listening to the new Pearl Jam, man this makes me sound so 90’s), but what I can tell is that it certainly won’t become my favorite Therapy? album. I can’t imagine that.

The album sounds damn attractive though. Except from very few parts the production is great on this one. I listened to it in the car yesterday, and it felt amazing.

As for the songs, I don’t have anything against one-line choruses. Some of Therapy’s most famous songs have that. But to me it seems that this album has too many of them. It’s the sheer quantity and length of these choruses that drag it down a little. That said, I could live wihtout the “Into the Light” chorus, “Lose It All” and “Private Nobody” could also need some more in that area. It is a shame, because I like the verses and the instruments.

Some songs work incredibly well, even with one-line choruses. Sprung, Deluded Son, DSA, Unconsoled, Our White Noise, Raiun Hits Concrete Fear of God…yep, those are my favorites right now.

I don’t understand the hate Heart Beat Hits is getting. It is a decent song.

I enjoy listenig to a Therapy? album that is more open and melodic. While I enjoy NANE, the style of OCFA is a good choice. It’s so cool, that they are always working on their style.

Walk Through Darkness is the song I can totally do without, though. The well made Outro redeems it a tiny bit, but it comes across as standard punk lala. As did the last song on NANE.

Anyway, I enjoy listening to it, and thank God that Therapy? is still making good music.

Re: Worst t? album in General Therapy? Topics

Went with High Anxiety, though I was close to clicking Shameless.

While Shameless lacks some of Therapy’s brilliance, it *is* a good album with very solid rock songs. I don’t like the production too much, to me it sounds like they were trying to clean up the sound of Suicide Pact, which they had every right to do, but Shameless is too polished.

High Anxiety has the right fury behind it, but lacks when it comes to ideas. Also, the drumming is, IMO, sub par with the drums on other Therapy? albums (thank God it is much better on NANE). The whole thing lacks focus. People say that NANE is rough, but while the sound is, the playing is excellent. I am not pleased with the playing on HA. I still like most of the songs on it, though, especially Who Knows, Watch You Go and Rust.

Re: One Cure Cover in General Therapy? Topics

It’s not pleasant to look at, which I like.

I liked all album covers except SD and NANE so far. SD might be my favorite Therapy? album, though, so yeahg, the covers don’t matter much.

The new one is interesting. I find it to be bold, that’s pretty cool. It doesn’t have the initial class of a SPYF cover, and is not as cool as the covers of HA and Troublegum.

Re: Album DONE?!?!?! in General Therapy? Topics

I agree that High Anxiety sounds a bit too rushed. It is not necessarily the raw sound, which I liked, it is just that I have the feeling that they could have done a few more takes to really nail some of the songs.

NANE on the other hand is a great production, IMO. It is raw and full of energy, definitely, and yet, the performances are very tight, very good playing.

The only album which I think could have used less or a more dirty production is Shameless. After SPYF it was quite a disappointment. Some of the stuff sounds dead compared to what it going on on other albums.

Semi-Detached, which has tons of layers etc., I consider a great album with an awesome sound. I always kinda wish they could return to that sound someday, since there are still so many possibilites on what to do with it. I am not expecting it - I like how Therapy? always try something new for the band - but while some are waiting for a Troublegum II, a part of me is always hoping for a SD II.

Re: Video interview Andy in General Therapy? Topics

Btw, that interviewer got on my nerves a little. When he asked if the “alone and afraid of the future” part was a “secret massage” since it has not been printed in the booklet. What the fuck. it’s not a secret message if you can hear it, very, very, clearly. Whatever Andy says in the end of “Big Cave-In”…that could be a secret message :) Oh, and I don’t like him asking twice if the band is some kind of “therapy”.

Still, I have to thank him. Such a long interview is great, and he asked a lot of meaningful questions, not the usual stuff interviewers ask.

Andy is a cool guy.

Re: Tightrope Walker in General Therapy? Topics

I love that song! Everything about it is excellent. I love it when the melodic chorus kicks in after the disturbing, paranoid verses, and the instrumental part is ace, fantastic sound, and the counting is also fun.

Re: Therapy? just get better & better in General Therapy? Topics

High Anxiety was a good album with some good tracks, but after a while it failed to keep me excited. NANE is definitely the better album. I love the roughness of the sound, and the dark tunes on there.

I don’t know if Therapy? are “just getting better” though. But that might be just my taste. I am a rock guy. My favorite albums are Infernal Love, Semi-Detached and Suicide Pact, in no order. It would be great to have another album like these. But should they decide to go the NANE way, I would be pleased too :) Damn, that album rocks hard.

Re: koln gig in Therapy? Live

I think it was a great show! I really like how they started out with that John Williams intro. Plus, they played some songs I didn’t even know (don’t have any albums before troublegum) :)

I thought that the sound wasn’t as good as last time. The drum sound was brilliant, but I could have used some more bass guitar. Andy’s voice was great that evening.

I am super-glad I got to hear Rock You Monkeys! I was also looking forward to So-Called Life and Polar Bear. Die Like A Motherfucker kicked ass, of course.

I think Neil’s drumming is a bit repetitive. It’s got this great industrial feel going with it, but some more variation could have helped. I know it’s an unpopular opinion here, but I think Graham was the best Therapy? drummer :)

Re: Most punk T? track? in General Therapy? Topics

Andy’s Gibson has a nice list going there. I would like to add “Other People’s Miseries”. It’s a sick punk track :)

Ok, dudes, while we are at it: Best closing track. in General Therapy? Topics

Title: Ok, dudes, while we are at it: Best closing track.

I can’t decide! I think the hidden track on HA is a pretty good closener, but 30 seconds is pretty brilliant…

30 Seconds.

Your turn!

Re: Favourite Album song opener and closer in General Therapy? Topics

For me it was a choice between Knives and Hey Satan You Rock. I want with Satan. That is such a fun track :)

Re: Therapy? becoming Radiohead :) in General Therapy? Topics

http://www.salzburg.com/jugend/musik02/stories/therapy.html

It’s in German, but here is the article where Andy says it.

Also, the “creep” reference. I don’t say that this is a definite Radiohead line, but it always reminded me of Radiohead.

Re: Shameless or Semi-Detached? in General Therapy? Topics

Definitely Semi-Detached. It might be my favorite Therapy? album. Shameless is my least favorite so…there :)

The songs on SD are at times just mind-blowing with their ideas, while having a core of poppiness inside I really love. Among the songs mentioned here I would like to add “Black Eye, Purple Sky”, “Born Too Soon” and “Stay Happy”. I mean, those three songs alone are so kick-ass. Damn, I got to hear that album today :)

Seriously, the only song on SD that didn’t really do it for me is Tramline, though it is still an alright song.

Shameless has some good songs, and even some brilliant songs, including the best combination of two T? songs following each other: “Tango Romeo” and “Stalk and Slash”. But the production is too clean for my taste, they should have gone a little towards Suicide Pact, but not the whole way. Shameless sounds like studio, as Infernal Love does, but only that Infernal Love is not supposed to be rock’n’roll.

Therapy? becoming Radiohead :) in General Therapy? Topics

Title: Therapy? becoming Radiohead :)

When Andy mentioned that Graham suggested sounding like the Strokes or Radiohead, I kinda wondered if suggestions like these are what inspired the line

“But I’m scared of giving up and being a psychedelic peace creep”

You know, I always had that Radiohead association while listening to that line (I am a big Radiohead fan), so it just clicked when I read Andy saying that.

Thoughts?

Re: High Anxiety or Troublegum???? in General Therapy? Topics

I always have a hard time comparing Therapy? albums to each other. I only know that I like Shameless least, but all the albums are very cool. I think Semi-Detached might be my favorite T?-album, though there is also Suicide Pact (which is fantastic, but I have to be in the exactly right mood). I am a big fan of Graham’s drumming. I can’t rank NANE well enough for now, but obvioulsy, this one is on heavy rotation.

Of the two albums in the poll I would now rather listen to HA than to Troublegum. I think that Troublegum is the better album, though. The lyrics make a clear difference. High Anxiety has cool music, but lyrically, it is Therapy?’s worst album. Hmm, someone should make a album lyrics poll, there I really have a clearer opinion.

Lyrics:

Troublegum - Semi-Detached - Infernal Love - Never Apologise Never Explain - Shameless - Suicide Pact - High Anxiety

Re: Most Depressive T? Song…??? in General Therapy? Topics

Listening to “Dead” the last couple of spins, I found it to be rather sad.

Re: One problem in General Therapy? Topics

On a cassette I can understand…but on a CD? Why? Too lazy to press that one button or to just go on repeat? :)

I think the length of the album is pretty good. It could even be a little shorter, like 12 songs. To me it is a totally satisfying listen. Plus, I can name a lot of other albums I like even though they are short. Like “Gran Tourismo” from the Cardigans or “Fever to Tell” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Re: Neil’s drumming in General Therapy? Topics

YES! That is a damn good drumming. Much better than High Anxiety, where it was good, but had some weaker parts IMO. But this here is gold. *plans to put in the album a 4th time today after finishing listening to Interpol*

Re: NANE - Best T? album by a mile! in General Therapy? Topics

Yeah, definitely not a big reinvention or anything, though the album is still unique. You can kinda feel the progress of the band. Without High Anxiety, Suicide Pact and Semi-Detached they couldn’t have done this.

Re: Best NANE track in General Therapy? Topics

I wonder why so many bands don’t do that. They have booklets with photos and stuff, but they are not willing to sacrifice some pages for the lyrics?

But Therapy? is just as guilty with some releases. At least they have all their lyrics on the site. Without them, I would understand a lot of things in the wrong way. Example from the new album: “With a ship like mine”.

Yes.

Re: Best NANE track in General Therapy? Topics

Long Distance, or panic, or So-Called Life. Long Distance because of the melancholy in its melody, Panic because its rhythmically excellent, So-Called Life because of the way it deals with the topic - its simple, but I can so much identify with it. God, this album is so, so nice. Every song is at least enjoyable, and most are gold.

Oh, and Rock You Monkeys has a cool sounding chorus.

Hmmm, should I add Dead to the first paragraph? Ah, I’ll do it, just to be sure.

Re: I can hear that “St. Anger” influence in the new album… in General Therapy? Topics

I did not say that T? listened to Metallica and said “wow, we wanna do that!” But they have to get their influences from somewhere, you know.

I also agree about Neil playing his drums way better than Lars Ulrich. God, Ulrich sucks so much most of the time. I am one of the dreaded “Load” listeners anyway. I can’t listen to their old stuff because the lyrics are so embarassing, even though its musically good stuff. The “Loads” have that jammy attitude I like, and Ulrich does his coolest drumming in “Reload”.

Anyway, I think that the style of St. Anger has influnced parts of “Rise Up” and “Here Be Monsters”. Also some other stuff I can’t tell you right now, since I don’t know the album by heart yet :)

Re: Rise Up Video in General Therapy? Topics

Yeah that would be nice. I was never really excited about Therapy? videos (IMO Diane is the best one, the others are all mediocre or poor, IMO).

Anyone seen Rise Up? Can you spoil me? What happens in that video?

Re: American Curiosity in General Therapy? Topics

Perhaps, in the spirit of movie productions, they will buy the rights for Therapy? and release and American Band called “Therapy! Wild rock’n’roll” with Fred Durst singing, some guy from Sum 41 on guitar, the bassist from Avril Lavigne and the drummer from Maroon 5.
