Re: sg owners unite! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

hmm this sounds familiar - I had a Schector guitar, I forget what the exact model was but I had similar problems with that - neck heavy and the Tune-o-matic bridge that won’t go down far enough - what are the adjustments on the saddles like, this may have an impact on the action

Re: sg owners unite! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Of course, their bridge setup is similar to a Les Paul

Re: Help Needed: Zip Discs in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

The drive should say which version on the flap or on the facia - Zip100, Zip250, Zip750 - I think!

Re: Help Needed: Zip Discs in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

How big are the disks? 100MB, 250MB 750MB?

Engl or VHT in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Well I’ve finally saved enough money to buy myself a new Amp, I’m torn between an Engl or a VHT - anyone ever used any of these amps.

It’s a choice between Engl or VHT - check for the Pitbull 100CL

Replace the nut then mate, it would be the easiest thing to do

Re: sg owners unite! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

I prefer 9’s on an acoustic but use 10’s on an electric.

I always thought you used heavier gauge strings if you tuned down? I remember asking for gauge 9’s once for my guitar, the guy in the music shop was laughing at me - Twat!

Re: sg owners unite! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Squall - To raise the action on a floyd rose trem you need to dismantle it and ‘unscrew’ the support screws that are screwed into the body. Depending upon the type of Floyd rose you can usually do this with a flat head screwdriver, or an Alan Key.

To be honest, it’s best left to a pro - I’ve lst hours of my life trying to setup a floyd rose

Re: Wot Effects Is Andy Using On The Webgig? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Delay, for the first time in a few years me thinks…

The distortion is dirty, couldn’t even hazard a guess as to what pedal it is to be honest mate

I just bought some Rocktron pedals off ebay cos Page Hammilton uses them, man there some of the best pedals I’ve ever owned, and I’ve owned a few. Got the ‘Zombie’ and ‘Metal Planet’ - would highly recommened to anyone, plus you can here them @ the rocktron website.. http://www.rocktron.com/

Anyway back to the thread, no ain’t a clue. You don’t even get a visisble look in the video’s

Hooch, could you ask Andy?

Re: PC music in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

MAC if you can afford it would be the most stable - studios usually have MAC G4’s or MAC Pro (Intel Core), so you could look for a MAC Book, but this is likely to be expensive.

If your doing audio processing you need a PC with a big HDD (fast access time < 8ms) and probably about a Gig of RAM min.

Ziggy is right Software: Steinberg Cubase but to be sure for a rough ball park you could goto their website and see what the softwares minimum specifications are interrms of PC power.

Re: Help me to buy a guitar… in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

I will never ever ever ever buy a guitar with a Ffloyd Rose locking Trem again, nothing but a pain in the arse.

Not my taste I’m afraid.

Wow awsome site Lector, cheers for the advice :D

Re: My Marshall… in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Some JCM’s were equpped with 5881’s when there was a shortage of EL84 during the 90’s. My Friend bought new valves for his (thinking they were El84’s) but his had 5881’s in it - You can tell if a JCM 900 has 5881’s by the fact the Speaker Output Jack Sockets have a red gromit around them…

Anyways I bought them from him for about £20 which is what he paid so I figure they must have been cheap!

Thanks for that, I’ll pop out at lunch time and get a copy of that mag :D

My Marshall… in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Title: My Marshall…

I have a Marshall JCM900 4100 Dual Reverb head. I’ve noticed that it’s not as loud as it once was, thus I’m planning to get it re-valved and serviced.

I’ve got some cheapy cheapy valves in it at present, anyone got any suggestions as to what are the best mid range valves?

It’s power amp section is driven by 4 EL34’s and the pre amp by 3 x ECC83’s

Not really the place for this question but figured people who share my taste in music must have some experience in getting their amps sorted

Re: Guitar String Life in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

If you wash your hands everytime before you play the guitar you can double the life of your guitar strings, well according to Tom Morello.

Re: Sprung + RHC Tabs HERE in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Every Guitar mag I’ve ever read with an article about T? refers to T? as a “C band” - I always thought they tuned down to C, like QOTSA.

The beauty of the TSL range is the 3 independant channels. The clean is really nice, the crunch is as crunchy as you like and the lead has even more gain.

I play/own a JCM900 4400 Dual Reverb run through a 1969A 4x12 Marshall Cab - I played a gig a while a go and the rhythm guitarist ran through a TSL which belonged to one of the other bands - I couldn’t match it for guts, it just blew my amp away. I’ve got an Award Session JD75 distortion pedal which is a pre amp as well. I can’t get any sort of good distortion from my amp without some serious volume; hence for any kind of Rock/Metal/Punk I always need a pedal – and I would seriously recommended this pedal to anyone – you can pick up second hand ones from ebay – check http://www.award-session.com/welcome.html

It is true, I can only get a Led Zep distortion at best from this amp, hence try and pick up a cheap JCM 800 and choose a good pedal - If you like Reverb then get the JCM900 but be assured you can’t get a good hard Rock/Punk/Metal sound from these Marshalls alone! Laney make great amps, I’ve owned a few try them - there pretty reasonable in price to

I was always under the impression Andy used JCM 800’s before switching to those totally fucking awesome Framus amps - To be fare the guitar work on OCFA is totally amazing. It’s really nice to hear some great production and layered guitar parts, this is something that been missing from T? albums since Shameless in my opinion, but hey they wouldn’t be a typical great T? album if it sounded like its predecessors.

Re: andy’s new amps… in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Don’t know but I want to know. Couldn’t make out the badge on the front - nice cabs and I really like the machined metal look they carry. They remind me of so many tube amps but they definetly aren’t any of them! Could be European and hand built possibly to edge my bets - they look quality.

The Lector does sound good but couldn’t help noticing he’s got EMG’s in it now - I’m sure they weren’t there before. Any he’s aquired another lector as well.

Re: Help me pick a rig in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

If it’s just a cab your getting I wouldn’t worry, the only thing they’ll do is buy speakers and whack eem in it.

Sounds good. Let us know how you get on.

Mesa are out of my price range, unfortunatly, but if I had the money I’d get a soldano, anyway. I don’t really want effects, either, becuase I’ve got enough of that with pedals.

Then get a Marshall JCM 800, if you have pedals you won’t need the distortion through the amp. I never use mine anyway!

Re: Help me pick a rig in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Have you considered, takes breath, looking on ebay? I bought my JCM900 Dual Reverb 4100 head and a 2x12 cab fitted with celestions for £450 all in mint condition.

As long as the person has good feedback you can generally get away with out getting your fingers burnt. Also buyying second hand will help you get a better rig for half the origonal price.

Makes to look out for, Laney, Peavey, Randall.

Hope this helps.
