Re: Thrash Recommendations in Other Bands & Artists

Not quite sure why you’re lumping TriviBum into the Thrash catagory, but anyway. Everyone hears something different I suppose.

Megadeth! No need to say much. Just get all the albums. Even the last 2 are worth checking out.
Anthrax! definitely. All John Bush albums are deadly. “…White Noise” and “We’ve Come… being the best. The Belladonna albums are very good for the most part. “Persistance Of Time” is definitely his best one but the older albums have all the classics.
Testament are outstanding. The early stuff is kinda take it or leave it, but everything from “The Ritual” on is nothing short of excellent.
Exodus are probably the truest thrash band still doing the rounds. The older albums all classics. And the last few new albums are brilliant also!
Overkill have always stayed true also! A shit load of albums to pick through. Fairly hit and miss, but not bad at all.

Of the newer thrash revival bands doing the rounds.
Evile, SSS and Municipal Waste, as mentioned above.
Also check out Gama Bomb and Bonded By Blood.

Re: New AC/DC song in Other Bands & Artists

I don’t know if this true or just bullshit, but someone posted on another forum that they work for Ticketbastards and apparently there were almost 80,000 people logged in before 09:00 to get AC/DC tickets.

That’s definitely Slane sold out twice over.

Re: New AC/DC song in Other Bands & Artists

They’re playing every second day on the tour.
Understandable, considering that all the members combined age is about 10,000 years old.

London were first in to book a second date on the 16th April and the O2 is booked by Pink after AC/DC, so it’s unlikely we’ll see a second Irish date.
If they play London on 14th and 15th instead of 16th and then added another Dublin date on the 17th it would have worked better, as the only dates they’re playing the day after are in the same venues as the night before.

There’s a lot of talk about moving to the RDS or somewhere bigger. But only time will tell.

Re: New AC/DC song in Other Bands & Artists

Was lucky emough to buy 2 standing tickets for the Dublin show in 18th April, first thing this morning in the “www.O2blueroom.ie” pre-sale thingy.

They went like the proverbial hotcake, so they did!

Can’t wait to finally see AC/DC live.

And Judas Priest 2 months before.
My bucket list is definitely getting shorter.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists

Best thing they’ve done since the Black Album. But still not great.!!!
Nothing wrong with the production as such, but the mix is definitely out of whack!

Drums are way too loud, which would be OK if they were any good. Some parts were just begging for an almighty thrashy drum pounding, ie. “All Nightmare Long”, but Lars just doesn’t have it in him to do it competently. He just plods through the same old cymbal tapping, one-two drum beat he’s done for the last 15 years. BORING.

Kirk is similar in that he just lashes out the same solos every album.

And James just can’t write a decent lyric to save his life. Plus his voice is knackered! He just can’t sing with the same vindication he used to.

So to sum it all up. It took an excellent producer to get a badly mixed, half decent album out of this band. Says it all really.

What is it that’s wrong with Ken?

He had a massive brain haemorrhage. Was in a coma for like, 10 months or something crazy like that.
The fact that he’s still alive after it is amazing.
The fact that he’s up and around, albeit in a fairly limited capacity is nothing short of a miracle.

Wish he’d pick my lotto numbers for me…

Re: The Almighty in Other Bands & Artists

Sorry about the fuck-up in the thread before this post. Don’t know what I was doing…

Everyone to their own Kill_Hill…

I don’t really have an opinion on BLOOD, FIRE & LOVE. I found it all a bit too cheesy for my liking.

I got SOUL DESTRUCTION when it came out and absolutely loved it. Granted I was into more straight forward rock’n’roll/metal back then.
But when POWERTRIPPIN’ came out I was just blown away at how much they had progressed from that album.

I love CRANK! Some savage tracks on that album. I’d rate it as their second best after POWERTRIPPIN’.
Ricky Warwick is a master at writting killer riffs. Check out “BROKEN MACHINE” and “IN LOVE (WITH REVENGE) from the self titled. You won’t be dissappointed.

I didn’t get into JUST ADD LIFE as much as the previous albums. I don’t know why? It’s a good album. I just knew after hearing it that the bands days were numbered.

I also have RICKY’s first solo album.
Absolute load of Rhino Pooh!!!!!
Rubbish mellow acoustic self indulgent drivel… AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

I am not quiet sure but I think I saw them supporting T? in 95 ?

I think that was a band called “SIC”. It was the band Rick Warwick set up after THE ALMIGHTY split back then.
They didn’t get up to much as far as I remember. An E.P. or two. That was about it.

THE ALMIGHTY’s first 2 albums are a bit cock-rock alright. “BLOOD, FIRE & LOVE” is OK. But “SOUL DESTRUCTION” is still a class album.
“POWERTRIP” was a different kind of animal altogether. Definitely their best release.
“CRANK” and “JUST ADD LIFE” were good but they tried to change their sound to a more punky style than before. Didn’t really work too well for them. so they packed it in.

He re-grouped THE ALMIGHTY again a couple of years later. Made 2 more albums… “THE ALMIGHTY” self-titled and “PSYCHO-NARCO”.
The self-titled is a cracker of an album. Never did get my hands on the last one. Very poorly distributed.

You can listen to most of their stuff for free on their website. But you will need RealPlayer to listen I think.

RADIOHEAD give the shits…

Everything they’ve released after “The Bends” is just self indulgent bullshit.

Every song is the same. Thom Yorke winging on and on about nothing much at all.

Re: RIP Vitek in Other Bands & Artists

He was 12 when he started playing in DECAPITATED.
A seriously talented drummer.

His brother “Vogg” is the guitarist in DECAPITATED too.

Saw them last year! Unbelievable live band. One of the most intense shows I’ve ever been to.

I read a review of the new album that mentions Paul Raven as bassist on it.
But there’s no mention of who played on the album on the official website.

But that’s all beside the point, anyway.

R.I.P.

Re: RIP Paul Raven in Other Bands & Artists

I think he played bass on the new PRONG album “Power Of The Damager”.
Only released in the last few weeks.

Supposed to be an absolute belter of an album too. A real return to form for PRONG.
I hope it is a fitting swansong for a true legend…

Re: Dream Theater in Other Bands & Artists

DRAM THEATER are the business…

One of the best bands of the last 20 years. Sure they’ve had their weak moments but who hasn’t.
They have plenty of rock albums, heavy rock albums and metal albums to entertain anyone into heavy music if they give them a proper listen. Their musicianship is second to none.
Check out their LIVE AT BUDAKAN DVD.

They usually play long sets of 3 hours or more. How many bands can do that these days.

To make things a bit more interesting for themselves they include covers of intire albums in their sets on odd occasions. I have the official bootlegs of their shows with MASTER OF PUPPETS and NUMBER OF THE BEAST. I still have to get my hands on DARK SIDE OF THE MOON.

Re: Slayer in Other Bands & Artists

SLAYER are deadly..

Yeah! the satanic shite is a bit much. But so what.
They are an excellent band to see live.

I’m really looking forward to the Marquee gig tomorrow night. Haven’t seen MASTODON before. So that should be class.

And CARNUN RISING are the opening act. I have their album and have seen them a couple of times. One of Corks best metal bands. Only problem is they are on stage pretty much straight away.
Doors at 7:00… CARNUN on stage at 7:01…

Re: Paradise Lost - The Enemy in Other Bands & Artists

Just got the 7” boxset in the post this morning…

It looks the business! I really nice collectors piece.

Just listening to the CD while I’m working now. Only half way through and already I can’t wait till it repeats.
Greg is really after stepping up with all his guitar solos and melodies. Really good to hear them so prominant again.

I really enjoyed the last few PL albums after the disaster that was HOST. But this one definitely blows them all out of the water. And I’m only half way through…

Great stuff!

Re: Favourite Carcass album in Other Bands & Artists

I have to go with HEARTWORK…

I really like to older stuff too. Especially NECROTICISM!
But HEARTWORK was such a massive eyeopener for extreme music when it came out.

Re: IRON MAIDEN… Dublin 20th Dec. in Other Bands & Artists

What a great show last night.

MAIDEN were in top form! As always!

Loved hearing all the new album live. And a decent selection of classics to round off the whole thing.

TRIVIUM were a bit “mehhh!”
Good sound! they sounded really tight.
But they just don’t cut it for me.
Maybe with a little time.
I think with their new album they’re trying too hard to sound accessable

I have the ‘ambient’ Devlab record and its just sound… when he says ambient, it just means background noises… no songs, no instruments, no beats… just background noise.

In my opinion, the man is a genius, and I always said Dev would only have to record a fart and I would buy it, well he actually did and I bought it and I shall not make the same mistake again :)

I have the 2CD version of Accelerated Evolution.
The bonus CD is this thing called “Project:ECO”.
More ambient bullshit. Not worth pissing on. Just really boring electronic crap.

Why?

What’s going on in the ANTHRAX camp?

Have they finally come to their senses and given Joey the boot again?

If my local Spar doesn’t have them on their magic ticketmaster machine anymore I can pop by SoundCellar as I have to be there on Friday night anyway.

Thanks a lot guys! You’re both LEGENDS!

Ticketmaster only have Seated tickets for €66.
Sound Cellar still has standing tickets left for €55 including booking fee.

All I need is one Standing Ticket!

Sure, Ci? If you’re heading up at the weekend! Can you get it for me? the I can meet up with you back in the real capital, and pay you for it.
But Cuchulain! If you wouldn’t mind standing in the wings, just in case Ci? doesn’t go up!

I’ll be in touch with both of you before the weekend!

Thanks a million, guys!!!!

Does anybody else think that the singer was trying to do a Freddie Mercury impression for the first part of the video to this song…??? The built up before the usual pop/punk shite they always play!

It made me want to puke the first time I saw it.

I have to change the channel every time it comes on now.

I wouldn’t call PRIMORDIAL a DOOM band. They are more of a BLACK METAL band, with Celtic/Folk influences.

There’s only one great Irish doom metal band and that’s MOURNING BELOVETH.
Every fan of heavy doom metal should get their stuff!
