Yeah, 1994 was also the year when Real Things by 2 Unlimited was released! Oh wait, we’re discussing good albums here…
Welcome to the WoM, btw!

Loads of bands, but I’m really into Evanescence, AFI, Ryan Adams, Muse, stuff like that these days. Then there’s good ol’ Metallica, Bush, Travoltas, and last but actually first: Therapy? You didn’t think I would forget them, did you ;-) How about you, what other bands do you like??

Hiya romy. Just thought I’d say hello quickly, partly cos I noticed we share the same birthday date, only I was born a year before you were. It’s a funny coincidence that I’m also a big Feeder fan, must be cos of our birthdays :)

Come on, get real… A little more dedication would help, you know. If you’re not willing to pay one lousy ticket, you’re not exactly showing commitment and loyalty to the band if you ask me. Some people went to waaaaay more gigs than you did, and they still pay for their tickets. I wouldn’t dare to ask them, by email or via another way, to put me on the guestlist, I have to much respect for them. And buying a ticket is just one of those things you can do to give something back to the lads.

I’ve never met the band. I don’t know how they do it. Must be hard to get in touch with the lads. Any tips? And how do you get on a guestlist? Do they just ask or are they all good friends? A lot of questions I know. But hey, I’m just a girl.
Just go to a gig, there’s a very good chance you’ll see the guys before or after the gig hanging around in the venue, no need for going backstage. They’re extremely approachable and very kind, so meeting them and having a chat should be no problem. How to get on the guestlist? That’s a reward for the craziest, most loyal fans I think. With loyal I mean people who go to every ‘nearby’ gig, there’s some nutcases (in a positive way!) who’ve seen them over 40 times now, that’s what I call dedication!

Actually, ‘hai’ means yes in Japanese. Alternatively, it means ‘hello’ in Dutch. I’ll opt for the second one! Btw, welcome to the boards Kim. Sometimes we’re slow, must be the time of the year.

But seriously, I too think that Belgian crowds are more fun than Dutch, from my own experience anyway!

Ah, my dear waffle-eating friends, again you overlook one juicy detail: our tulip country seems to be a fav of the Stones, since August was pretty much Stones MONTH here in Holland, with five gigs! Sorry, got you again!

About the 7 gigs: that shows that your country lacks good taste in music because the T? boys have to go to 7 different places to bring you guys some culture :p
Riiiiiiight… That’s one way to interpret it. I guess your still in denial, I’ll give you some time to think things over…

Re: Yo. in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
Don’t worry about your taste, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with British (rock) bands. I myself prefer British bands as well, above most American bands anyway.
I also listen to a lot of different types of music, although rock is my preferred type.
Oh, and welcome to the boards, btw!

Hi there, and welcome! Good to see someone who also loves Semi-Detached, it rocks! And don’t worry about missing those gigs, you’ll get plenty of new chances, as the lads seems to like playing in Holland very much!

In the words of Krusty the Clown: Heyhey!! Btw, they did a USA tour last year around May I think, didn’t they play near Texas? That’s one disadvantage about the US isn’t, it’s so f*cking big!

The benefit of being tall is that shorties can’t reach higher than your ass. Then again, if you turn around shorties may cause serious harm! :-þ

Re: well here i am in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
Hmm, yes, but short people make my back hurt! Btw, I don’t think it’s average, especially in Western Europe people grow taller and taller. Sorry, I guess that makes you below average (concerning height, that is)…

Re: well here i am in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
Well, if it makes any difference, I kinda like short girls, I don’t know why, because I’m 6’4”!

Re: well here i am in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
5’4” would be about 160 cm I think. 1 foot is about 30 cm, an inch about 2.5 cm. So it’s indeed not very tall ;-)

Re: Hello all. in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
I know it wasn’t their song, but they made a version that is way different compared to Husker Du’s version. The rock version they often play resembles the original more, and sound more like Therapy?. Anyway, I think the rock version is way better than the other two versions by Therapy?

Re: Hello all. in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
Whenever I try to explain who Therapy? are, I say: ‘Remember Diane? That’s what they don’t sound like at all!’ It’s funny that their one and only hit in the Netherlands is the song that is perhaps least representative of their complete work, isn’t it?

Re: Hello Everyone in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
Totally agree with you opal mantra. The thing is that most bands change their sound in order to become more popular. And this is when I start to dislike a band, when they choose for the money instead of the fans and/or music. But I also like popular bands like 3 Doors Down, Bush, Foo Fighters, and so on, but these bands were already making the same sort of music before they became more popular (although FF sounds a bit poppier now).
Not only do bands change their sound, with it they often change their attitude, which is what we call ‘rockstar bullshit’. This is obviously not the case with T?, since I don’t know any bands as big as T? that is so close to its fans. Also a band like 3 Doors Down, they are already pretty popular in Holland, but yet they chose to play in a small venue (013, small venue, about 350 people), which is a thing I can appreciate. The gig is much more ‘intimate’, a band is much closer to its fans this way.
Sounds to me you’re only saying this shit to provoke people, johnnyboy. I do believe in freedom of opinion, but not in the way you try to show your opinion. But I won’t descend to your level, it’s not worth it…

Re: Hello Everyone in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
johnnyboy, you’re not that smart yourself… There are tons of good bands which are not popular, at least, outside the U.S. Only people who like rock and listen to underground stuff know bands like Undeclinable Ambuscade, Amorphis, Face To Face, Terrorgruppe, No Motiv, In Extremo, Fuel, The Get Up Kids and even Therapy? Just because these bands aren’t popular, does not mean that they aren’t good. Fact is that most bands change their sound once they become more popular, e.g. Metallica, Foo Fighters, Krezip. I liked these bands better when they weren’t as popular as they are now. Metallica’s first albums, like Master Of Puppets and Ride The Lightning, were way better than the later stuff, like Load and Reload. And the 2nd album of the Foo’s was way better than There Is Nothing Left To Loose.
Again, I don’t give a damn whether a band is popular or not. The thing is, once bands become popular, they often change both music and attitude, which is not always good. But that’s my opinion, just live with it…

Re: Hello Everyone in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
Hey InnocentX, I’m with you man… I don’t give a f*ck about charts either. What I do hate is when bands choose for the money, instead of the music. This is often linked with a poppier sound. A band like Krezip, for instance, definately went for the money, which resulted in a bad, bad album. Therapy? on the other hand, choose for the music, since they don’t give a damn about charts either. This makes T? a unique band, with it’s own unique sound. I haven’t heard anything like their music yet, which can’t be said about other bands…

Re: Hello Everyone in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
Therapy? reached the 9th spot of the British charts with Screamager, and they scored an international hit with Diane. And Troublegum was a huge commercial success. So you could call T? poppy. However, Therapy? did not choose the easiest way. Instead of making Troublegum part II, they chose to take another path, and make different sounding albums. This is why T? is so great: they are not as predictable as other (rock)bands, they do things the way they like it, they do not let anybody (record companies) tell them what to do, and every single album has its own, different sound.
