Greece won me and my friends 135 beer coins yesterday! Three of us participated in a contest organised by a bar, you had to predict all the scores for the group matches, and predict the quarter finals, semis, final, winner, etc. Out of 53 people who participated, I finished 4th, and one of my friends 3rd! And we owe it all to the Greeks, yeehaa!!

Yeah, he was legendary as the Don. Now he sleeps with the fishes.

The man should be called Van der STAR!! He was really great, wasn’t he? I hope he’ll continue until 2006, cos there’s no replacement that comes even close to his qualities.

Can’t help but noticing a reference to Guns ‘n Roses in the band name: Revolver -> Gun; Velvet -> Rose. Or am I talking crap here? Both band names have a clear ‘paradox’ in it, if you know what I mean.

Is there a lot of (non-football related) rivalry between the Czechs and the Germans? That may help!

I think Germany dominated the match against Holland, so why can’t they do that against the Czechs? But then again, the Czechs are really really strong, definately one of the best teams on this tournament.

If Holland plays their own game (like they did yesterday), they should beat Latvia, but it will be hard!

I am really gutted… We didn’t deserve to lose, especially not in a way like this. Of course it’s over now, the Czech’s won’t give their best against Germany, why would they? Unless Germany fucks up big time, it’s all over. And please people, keep the mocking limited (seriously), I don’t want to be enemies with anyone on these boards!

But it was by far the best match of this tournament!

I actually did my graduation thesis on cultural differences! One thing I found is that there always were, still are, and probably always will be vast cultural differences. You just gotta be careful with stereotyping. One negative experience with someone from a culture other that your culture does not mean that everybody from that culture is an asshole. Every culture has assholes!

Now that we’re discussing this, what do you guys regard as typical of some of the most common cultures on this board (Dutch, Belgian, English, German, and so on). I know that many Belgians regard Dutch people as being cocky (‘dikkenekken’ ;) ) and many Dutch people regard Belgians as being stupid. Note that I don’t share either opinion. What else is often said about other cultures according to you?

Not sure if I’m the only one, but I quite like ‘This Love’ by Maroon5. Does that qualify as a guilty pleasure?

Out of the last 5 big tournaments, they lost 4 times on penalties. In fact, I’m not sure they have ever won a match on penalties. But I think that I won’t be able to watch it when it’ll come down to penalties again, I’ll just save myself the pain and torture!

My predictions are that Holland will be knocked out in the quarter finals by Italy, by the way. Like many people, I put my money on France to win the title.

1974 and 1978 were classic examples of bad luck. I’m actually glad I’m not old enough to have lived in the 70’s, Dutch people nowadays still call it the ‘World Cup trauma’. On the other hand, we’ve had our fair share of shit in the 90’s, being really close to win all the time, but somehow it always goes wrong. Let’s hope it’ll go better this time!

By the way, don’t underestimate the Czechs, they’re a really strong team. In fact, they just might win the group!

Best sitcom ever is Seinfeld. Period.

They started out good with My Own Prison I think, but then they must have fallen for stardom or something, I don’t know what happened. They were really full of shit, weren’t they? They had some good songs though, Torn is still a killer track.

‘Very easy’ is quite an understatement :D

Their albums don’t have the same names of any songs or singles in a literal way, but Infernal Love is derived from Epilepsy (…’This infernal love… it burns like wire’), and of course Suicide Pact-You First, which can be found back in Little Tongues First. The latter song is even referred to as SP-YF by Andy during live gigs more often than it is called Little Tongues First.

It’s on the single(s) of I Am The Money. There are four different versions of the single, only two have the full length version of IATM. They released two UK-singles, and two ‘Europe-singles’. UK #1 (no. ARKCDS2A07) has the version, and the Europe single (no. 015 305-2)has it. Not sure if I got the catalogue numbers right though.
