Re: The Worst Band Of All Time in Other Bands & Artists
Err, sorry… that didn’t make sense..
“DIDN’T dissapoint” I didn’t read that well, it’s been a long and boring day at work :p

Re: The Worst Band Of All Time in Other Bands & Artists
I wasn’t at Graspop so I don’t know how they played, but Wall Of Jericho normally isn’t that bad. Maybe, if you’re into extreme metal bands and you consider them an extreme metal band as well, they could dissapoint, but I’d rather say it’s Hardcore ;)

Re: Double Albums in Other Bands & Artists
I have to agree with Divers, about 45 minutes is the perfect lenght for an album. At first I was a bit dissapointed when I saw the tracklisting of Crooked Timber, because it only has 10 tracks. It ended up being 10 amazing songs and there’s absolutely no filler on the album. If there had been 11 songs on it, with one being filler it would take down the quality of the album as a whole. The longer the album, the more chance for filler, I’ve never come accross a double album with no filler at all, not including The Ramones Antology, but that’s a compilation ;)

Re: Dave McPherson in Other Bands & Artists
I never heard anything by inme, I think, but I quite enjoyed Dave McPherson sets last week. He’s a funny guy and he talks way too much, but the only problem I had with him, was that his songs were too long, but they weren’t bad at all. If it’s not too far away from you house, give it a try I’d say.

Re: Ever walked out of a gig? in Other Bands & Artists
Talked about it with a friend last week. About 12 years ago, when we were still going to gigs every week, we used to walk out on a regular base when Liar played. They were an amazing band, but they played on every decent hardcore gig in Belgium around that time (mainly there were at least 3-4 bands on the bill). A few years ago I started going to a lot of their gigs again, I couldn’t understand why we walked out during their gigs.

Re: So my taxi driver last night was the drummer from Joyrider… in Other Bands & Artists
I’m thinking the same thing since Neil has joined the band… I wonder what he would have done with SP-YF, I think that’s the best thing Graham has done with T? and it’s an absolute brilliant record, but still, I do believe Neil would have given it an extra dimention.

Re: JP Laitio-Ramone`s 3rd Ramones book in Other Bands & Artists
The Ramones only lasted 22 years ;-)
Some bands simply don’t have to change, they were a bit like Motörhead… they can go on forever without changing. I know now what their next album will sound like, if it doesn’t, I’ll be dissapointed (probably). It’s amazing what they can do with just 3 chords :-)

Re: JP Laitio-Ramone`s 3rd Ramones book in Other Bands & Artists
:-o I really love the Ramones, Dee Dee is the most underrated songwriter of all time!! When he left, it all went downhill IMO…
Of all the songs they released after he left, I only like the songs he wrote. For me there were no Ramones without Dee Dee, but worst of all… Dee Dee without the Ramones seemed to be nothing either :-(
Joey’s solo project on the other hand is surprisingly amazing though!!

Re: Nofx in Other Bands & Artists
That was somewhere in Germany in 1993, Grugahallen perhaps? Therapy? also dedicated a song to NOFX on the same day :-)

Re: Nofx in Other Bands & Artists
The new album is pretty good, not their best though. The Quitter and My Orphan Year are my favorite songs on the album.
Backstage Passport is the best music related DVD I have ever seen in my life!!! :) Highlight: The Peru show that was blown off and loads of fans gathered in front of their hotel… When Fat Mike asked for a guitar, I shed a tear :-o

Re: Nofx in Other Bands & Artists
Woohoo, my stuff arrived today!!! Very Nice artwork for both the CD and LP. I just love it when the vinyl and CD have completely different artwork, and even better, different titles. The artwork of Coaster (CD) is very nice indeed, especially the back! But Frisbee (LP) is the big winner; It’s got Melvin in a sportsoutfit on the cover, trying to catch a flying LP :-)
I also got both the mini-cd and 7”, they both contain the same tracks.
My stamp on the 7” is the least limited of the limited editions though ;-)
there’s 301 with Black Stamp (which I’ve got), 292 with Blue Stamp, 289 with Red Stamp, 282 with Green Stamp, 272 with Purple Stamp, 37 with Copper Stamp, 24 with Mixed Stamp and 3 with Gold Stamp.
Oh well… you can’t always get Gold ;-)
I’m off to listen to the album first…

Hmmm, I notice there isn’t a mention of the cd with bonus songs on the Fatwreck site, does this mean the offer is over? I knew I should have ordered it earlier!!
Or when you guys pre-ordered it, was there also no mention of the freebie then?
It was mentioned in the “news” section of the fat wreck site, when I pre-ordered there was no further mention of it. But I’m not sure yet if I pre-ordered on time… didn’t receive my package yet.

Re: Nofx in Other Bands & Artists
That’s what’s so fun about them, they always try to make a fool out of someone in the audience.
The gig in Belgium was in a tent, some people were climbing in the poles to have a better view, Fat Mike was going: “you people up there in the poles, you annoy me. You really do!” a few songs later in the set, someone in the poles had taken off his shirt, and Fat Mike went: “did you climb up there first and then take of your shirt? He was like “I climb up here and prove to be man… I must take of shirt! Grraaw!”. Is you shirt in your backpack?” :-)

Do you mean your pre-order already arrived? Does it have a cardboard sleeve, or did you get a promocopy?
Aagh… I want to hear it!!!

Re: Nofx in Other Bands & Artists
I only listened to “The Quitter” so far since that’s available on the Fat Wreck website, I’ve just seen “Creeping Out Sara” has been added, but I’m not going to listen yet, even though you made me curious about that song :-)
I’ll also try to stay away from their myspace. I pre-ordered the CD and Vinyl and I find it a lot more fun to hear the cd/vinyl while reading the booklet :-) I hope it won’t take too long before they arrive…
But I really like “The Quitter”!! :-)

Just checked the news on the fat wreck website, if you order Coaster (the cd) you’ll get the 2-track cd. If you order Frisbee (the LP) you get the 7”… I’m ordering both and hope these extra’s aren’t too limited :)

Re: Nofx in Other Bands & Artists
Hooray!!! I was waiting for the option to pre-order the new album so I could order it together with the DVD, and was hoping for an extra gift from the lovely people from Fat Wreck, I didn’t expect a cd and 7”!!! I’m off to fatwreck.com :-)

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
I gave Death Magnetic a few spins over the weekend, and I must say it’s far better than St. Anger. However I didn’t get the feeling I was listening to a CD, but more to a compilation of ideas squized together in ‘songs’. That’s a pity, since it’s got some brillliant ideas… it just isn’t finished.
There isn’t one song on it which I think sounds great, simply because every track is full of filler, it’s clear they don’t want to make short tracks even though they didn’t have inspiration… The bridges are long and boring or the different ideas don’t suit together I one song… Why a long boring track if you only have 3 minutes worth of good stuff? And why does a song like “All Nightmare Long” have 2 intro’s? They’re both great, but don’t suit well together IMO…
However, it’s far better than I expected after watching the crap performance they gave on Later with Jools Holland.
Can’t comment on the quality, my stereo broke down and only listened to it in the car.

Re: The Future of Music in Other Bands & Artists
I think this whole downloadmusic business is sad, a factory pressed cd with coverart can be done very cheaply. It’s no excuse.
And it’s even more sad to ask money for mp3’s (with wich I don’t mean music should be for free!!!), whatever happened to quality nowadays? No-one seems to care… it’s sad.
If it ever happens that there’s no proper cd releases anymore, I hope there’s still music games around like Guitar Hero (and others) that bring out hardcopies (even though the end is already in sight as well*) of band specific games like Guitar Hero Aerosmith and the rumoured Guitar Hero Metallica… I truly hope they take over the musicbusiness if it ever comes to this… (let me dream at least)
* another thing that’s dying because of people who think everything should be for free, chip their consoles and download illegal copies… >:-<

I didn’t hear the cd yet, but seeing ‘the day that never comes’ on Later with Jooles Holland doesn’t really motivate me to listen to the cd.
That was a very poor performance. And don’k know if it was because of the bad performance or it simply is a bad song?
