Re: 03.04.12 Therapy? @ AB in Therapy? Live
I’ve probably ranted too much which made my real concern unclear, because I think from what you say here, that you don’t really understand what was bothering me.
I agree with most of what you’re saying… are you confused yet? :)
I was indeed complaining about the setlist, but I’m usually very happy with how they compile a setlist. Those 7 “piss/beerbreaks” usually don’t upset me, even after 66 (or so) Therapy? gigs, since mostly they manage to put plenty of surprises in them, even if you see them 5-6 times during one tour you get to hear a lot of different songs.
It’s just that the German setlist made me drool like a teething infant. The Bratislava setlist made me raise an eyebrow, but I wasn’t aware where going to get a very similar one. After what Ronald said (quoted above) I got my hopes up so high that I came down really hard…
It is amazing to hear the complete album and chances are very little to hear those songs that don’t survive after a week.
About the “If the crowd is pumped so are we” quote. That’s probably also the case for Therapy? but they’ve got plenty of other songs that get the crowed pumped. It’s not really those 7 that are bothering me (well, one of them is, but if I don’t want to hear it, all I have to do is pick one gig abroad, as they see it as the Belgians favorite :D).

You can book with your credit card and choose for collection at the venue box office , once you bring your printed confirmation.
Thanks, stupidly enough I didn’t check there first. I thought I read on here a while ago they were sold out, at least the Cork gig was I think, before it got replaced.
I’ll buy tickets as soon as I get home tonight, but I think I’ll use Alan’s link for the Cork tickets :p

I hope they’ll keep their promise, so I can look forward (and back) to a memorable birthday gig :)

I’m sure they’re proud of the new material, but perhaps might have felt some songs just didn’t go down so well live. Some songs suck on an album, but are great live, and the other way around.
True, but that’s definately not the case here. I can’t see why Stark Raving Sane, Marlow, The Buzzing and Plague Bell won’t do it live, on the contrary! Plus the people who went to the German shows were very postive about them. The only song I had doubts about how it would sound live was Ecclesiastes…
Thefanthattriedtostrangleitslf wrote:
Believe me 6/10 is good for a band with T?’s discography to fall back on.
6/10 aint too bad indeed, but they’re promoting their new album and still play 4 Troublegum songs, that’s just not a fair match in my eyes. They do have an extensive back catalog but that’s not an argument if they ignored 6 out of 13 albums (and not only last night). But ignoring 6 albums is not what was bothering me, it’s that they said only a day before to Ronald (who I tend to believe) that they were going to play the entire new album in places where they played the Troublegum in it’s entirety last year.
But hey, it’s cool with me that they play what they want… I just don’t believe that’s what they really want (for 20 years every gig, the same 7 songs, that’s probably +1500 times), they’re just keeping the crowd happy. It is indeed like realityfuck says, a lot of people just come for the hits, but they played this fantastic formula in Germany. Apart from the people that only come for a night out, there’s also a lot of people in Belgium that have seen Therapy? over 20 times… if 4 of those 7 hits get dropped for those 4 new songs they still get to play 3 of these hits, along with other, less played hits… just for once?
The last 2 album tours I’ve seen them play every song of the album live, which is amazing. What hits me most is that chances are VERY small I’ll hear Stark Raving Sane, Plague Bell, Marlow and The Buzzing live, songs that fall off first usually never get played again.
Thefanthattriedtostrangleitslf wrote:
Annihilator only played 3 new in a set of 20 or so songs, U.D.O. did even worse playing only 2 new songs off Rev-Raptor in an hour-long set.
If it’s the tour right after the release, that’s pretty sad for a promotion-tour… Unless it’s a 3 or 4 tracks album of course, but I take it it’s not. But then again, I haven’t seen those bands 66 times, playing the same songs over and over again :-p
Thefanthattriedtostrangleitslf wrote:
I also think they were rather left off in favour of creating a setlist with songs from more different albums: I’d heard If It Kills Me, DLAMF and Polar Bear live before, but only a couple of times. After all these albums still exist and the guys can be proud of them as well and willing to put them in the spotlight.
Probably, but they didn’t, like I said they ignored 6 of them, fair enough, it’s their choice.
Thefanthattriedtostrangleitslf wrote:
Also, 4 Troublegum songs might seem like a lot, and it is, but I also gotta mention Screamager and Nowhere are both really short songs ;)
2 old songs off the list, one new on the list :D
I might have to mention that I have absolutely nothing against Troublegum (though I got a bit tired of Screamager, Nowhere, Die Laughing and Isolation). I absolutely loved the Troublegum gigs, it’s the album that got me into Therapy? and I still enjoy listening to the album. If it’s not a promotion-tour of a new album I don’t even care if they play these… but using these to replace 4 new songs got my heart bleeding…
I am sure those 4 tracks sound amazing live… I absolutely love Andy’s screaming-vocals on The Buzzing and Marlow is my favorite track on the album even one of my favorite Therapy? songs.

Re: 03.04.12 Therapy? @ AB in Therapy? Live
You also forgot Get Your Dead Hand Of My Shoulder. ;)
They played very well, but the sound sucked during the first few songs which caused Ghost Trio and Why Turbulence to sound very poor (no bass at all!!)
Ronald wrote:
Last nigth I asked about the setlist and there IS a philosophy behind it: In cities where they played a Troublegum show last year they mostly skip those songs and play a lot or the whole of ABCOL in combination with older stuff of course.
I always hate it when fans complain about everything but now I’m going to do it myself, because I have to admit, after reading the above quote I was very dissapointed by the setlist. They played a Troublegum-set here last year, so I was really looking forward to hear the complete album. It’s a pity that after one week of touring 4 songs of the new album have fallen off already, I thought this was a tour for the new album…
It’s such an amazing album, and it might have been a disappointment for some (at first?) but with the album they showed they don’t make what others want them to make. Then why play what others want you to play, instead of the new work you can be proud of? Or aren’t they? I have my doubts that after +2000 (?) gigs they still want to play the 7 “piss/beer break-songs” if they didn’t “have to”. At a certain point Andy said they where going to play another song of the new album, “after that we’ll play some more old stuff” Was that an apology for playing a new song!? 6 new/4 troublegum in a 20 song-set while having 13 albums… strange ratio.
If it weren’t a tour for the new album, I wouldn’t be bothered so much, I would just sigh but still scream my lungs out while singing along. This time however the weight was a bit too heavy to carry on my own ;) /rant
I thought the crowd was very calm compared with other Therapy? gigs they played in that venue.
A pity there’s always some annoying people that have to talk constantly, instead of Ecclesiastes I heard the life-story of someone I don’t give a shit about! Show some respect for the band/other people. If you don’t come to hear the band just go to a pub and don’t spend €25 to ruin other people’s gig experience!! :(

Anyone got tickets for the replaced Dublin and Cork (10/5 and 11/5) gigs and can’t make it on the new dates?

Hmm, disappointingly it appears the ABCOL songs are already being dropped from the set.
Plague Bell, Marlow, Stark Raving Sane & Ecclesiastes have gone.
I wonder is it crowd apathy or whether the band thinks they don’t work live?
;-( I hope they’re back tonight! ALL OF THEM!! I was soo looking forward to hear the COMPLETE album tonight and for once no Nowhere, Screamager, Die Laughing, Teethgrinder, Potato Junkie and Diane. I was so proud they had the guts to leave these out, I never expected they would.
It could also be because that (that’s what I hope) they replaced some of the new songs by crowdfavorites because they don’t play Bratislava much.
For tonight I still hope for a Cooper-only setlist :)

Re: Setlist 2012 / Berlin 28.3.12 in Therapy? Live
I’m even more looking forward to the Belgian show now. I’ve got nothing against Troublegum, but hearing the half of Troublegum every time takes away too many time to hear some variation. The setlist was always way too predictable. I know a lot of “fans” come just to hear the Troublegum hits and might be dissapointed, but it’s the A Brief Crack Of Light-tour after all, and seeing all the postive reactions in here, I think it was a well-weight risk.
This is an amazing surprise, I hope they’ll keep it up for the rest of the tour. Also, I’m so looking forward to a Therapy? show in Belgium where they don’t play Diane… please make it happen :)

You’re still playing Mario Kart Wii? Get yourself a 3DS, Mario Kart 7 is hot right now ;)
I was going to write down our friendcode when I used Wii, but I forgot, I’ll try to post it later today.

Re: A Brief CracK Of Light in General Therapy? Topics
So I might easily get tired of A Brief Crack Of Light you think, because it was too easy for me to get into it? ;)
I don’t think it’s got much to do with how easily you get into it, but more with how genius it is. I had the same thing with Crooked Timber, and I still love it so much. Whenever I get that album out I’m playing it for weeks non-stop, after a few weeks I just stop playing it because Jan is begging me to :p
ABCOL lies in the same line as CT, it’s got a lot in common, but it’s still different enough to be fresh.
I think I have incidently grown in the same musical direction Therapy? was going to, without listening to the same kind of music. I’ve picked up a lot of stuff from what Jan is listening to, that I initially called “crap”, I don’t really like it, but I can tolerate it. A lot of elements of Jan’s favorite music is coming back in CT and ABCOL, but in a more familiar way for me. I think that’s why I instantly liked ABCOL (and CT).
The lenght is perfect for me, but I admit, when I saw the number of songs my first thought was: “What!? Only 10 songs?” But I rather have an album with no filler, like ABCOL and CT. I think it’s better to still want more after it’s over, than to have one song on it that doesn’t feel right.
I still hope they’ll release the other material pretty soon though :p

I finally got my copy. Damn, what an album!!! You people got me really scared saying it’s a grower. Growers usually end up in the shelf here, mostly till I’ve seen the band live, sometimes even forever… This one is not coming out of my stereo anytime soon :p

How come it will be released here in Finland on the 22nd of this month? So that´s why I didnt find any copies in shops here last week and yesterday when I was downtown…
I asked Global about this when my pre-order didn’t arrive and I started to look for it in local recordstores. They all said it would arrive Februari 17th :(
Global then told me that the 6th was the UK releasedate and it 17th the European releasedate… I guess the Scandinavian releasedate will be the 22nd.
On a sidenote: I got a note in my mailbox yesterday that our postman had a package for me but there was no-one to accept it… I can pick up my copy of A Brief Crack Of Light tonight!!!! :D

I’ve got no complaints about the speed at which the Belgian Post delivers, usually. But their attitude if something goes wrong (and that happens a lot: damaged or opened, delivered at the wrong address, not being delivered at all)

Yes, I know Global’s got a very good service. My Crooked Timber sleeve was damaged and they send a replacementsleeve right away.
I’ve already contacted them last week and they will send a replacement if it’s not in the mail today. I just it so badly that I’m checking recordstores :)
I seem to have problems with every Therapy? release I pre-order, soon I’ll be on Global’s black list :p (Belgian Post are a bunch of twats)
