Re: Have They Gone And Done It? in General Therapy? Topics

Just to get a balanced reply in before people start going to hysterics at the guy who started this…

Who knows? I’d be inclined to doubt it - If they didn’t split up after Semi Detached didn’t do very well, I can’t see why they’d split up now, Unless the whole touring/recording merry go round is starting get boring. Maybe the records aren’t selling anough to keep going anymore.

Anyways, to paraphase something I saw in a T? review once -No one ever made money by writing off this band.

I would imagine it’s at least partly about Fyfe…the line “I always meant to write you a letter…” sounds like it’s about him.

Why the hell is Infernal Love winning????

False moustaches and random samples to link the songs together are always a no no!

Thank god someone else thinks this too!

A little bit worrying that we’ve vote 3 of their last 4 albums to be their worst…

Agreed. Am a bit suprised at HA getting so much stick, not so much the other 2. I think we need an album that will really stir things up in the way Suicide Pact did almost a decade ago now. The problem with the last 4 records or so is not that the songs are bad - far from it - but the T? sound seems to be merging into a somewhat predictible punk rock format. My 2 cent anyway.

Production - Agree with you 100%

Only 3 Memorable songs - can think of more than 3 - c’mon.

Each to his own but I view it as the defining album for the band. At the time, they sounded like nothing else I had ever heard before.

Well am not looking for a mad argument about this, but if you look at setlists over the last say 5 years, the band must have played everthing from Babyteeth and most of Troublegum. Nurse gets only Teethgrinder 99% of the time.

It’s a shame really cos I’d like to hear Gone live.

How can someone pick Nurse???

Maybe cos of the one dimensional production and only about 3 really memorable songs?

I didn’t pick it by the way.

Re: When Hate Kill Destroy in General Therapy? Topics

When John Kenny’s Metal Show finished on 2FM Irish radio, he had this Classic Rock show for a while. I don’t know how the hell it was complied, but he had a top 10 album playlist thing at the end of each show and Suicide Pact topped it for at least a few weeks. This was a list that had bands like Korn and Machine Head in it mind. I remember Wall of Mouths being played.

I think it was a band called The Membranes who did Tatty Seaside Town?

Re: Infernal love strikes back in General Therapy? Topics

I don’t think Semi Detached was really that commercial at all. A few songs on it were for sure, but if you look at Straight Life, Tightrope Walker, Tramline, Safe…there is quite a jagged sound to the album, for want of a better word. The band said it sounded too commercial around the time of Suicide Pact, but almost without exception every album they’ve recorded since then has been more commercial!

To answer the quesion…I don’t think it would have mattered if T? had realised a more acceptable ablum for either IL or SD. They might have had an easier ride for a while but they still would have slid into commercial obscurity. I just think they are that kind of band.

It does get overhyped by some people on this website. While I’m at it, ditto for Dancin with Manson and A Moment of Clarity.

Re: Therapy songs that sound smilliar to other bands in General Therapy? Topics

I listened to the song again and to be fair I can hear that Master of Puppets riff in there now.

Songs that T? have ripped off…Die Like a Motherfucker has a riff thats straight out of a Kerbdog song called Pledge (the riff just before the verse kicks in). I doubt it was a deliberate rip off though.

Its not exactly a rip off but the opening to This Ship is Sinking is pure Joy Division.

Quote (author unknown):

it was fuck all like screamager. It was blatantly Master of Puppets though !!

Exact Same Riff

Plus, what makes you think that Sum41 have even heard screamager ?

Finally, Em, C, G, D is such a widely used chord sequence.

It’s hardly like Andy was the first or last to use it.

Why shouldn’t they have heard it? I know they are fans of Heartwork by Carcass, why not Troublegum? Am not the only person who has thought this btw.

And it doesn’t sound much like Puppets to me and you’ll have to excuse me for not commenting on the chords as I am not a musican.

What was that Sum 41 song that was a blatant rip of of Screamager? Think it was called Still Waiting.

I would also like to point out - who is such an album going to appeal too?! Samuel Beckett fans are hardly going to love the distorted loud guitars and rock fans are hardly going to like rock being a soundtrack to a narrative…without words. Fuck me, this is hilarious! :D

I think we should ask Lemmy to do a concept album based on the life of Nigel Mansell using just a tin whistle and a harp with 4 strings! :D

Andy has always been inspired by weird influences…I think the sense of alienation and twisted sense of humour that runs through much of Becketts work fits T? perfectly.

I think its a good idea in theory. The last few albums have been good but I am noticing a formula developing. There were few surprises on OCFA. T? really need another Suicide Pact or Infernal Love to really shake things up. The question is: Can they afford to do it?

Posted on Wed, 23 August 2006 at 11:55

Re: OCFA what do you think? in General Therapy? Topics

Quote (author unknown):

Andy says he is tired of writing lyrics (when he spoke about an instrumental album) and it clearly shows in their latest work.

Very much agree. The days of writing choruses as good as Ten Year Plan and Lonely Cryin Only seem a long way off.

Re: New Therapy? Album - Instrumental ? in General Therapy? Topics

I think its a great idea myself - I’ll probably put a few noses out of joint by saying this, but I think that T? are in danger of sliding into complacency. As good as the last few albums are, they are not pushing boundaries the way they did around the time of Infernal Love and Suicide Pact. I think this would be a great way of shaking things up.

And also - I think it kinda shows that Andy is getting tired of vocals on OCFA. The repetitive chorus thing has been mentioned a few times.

Re: Official reviews of “OCFA” topic. in General Therapy? Topics

Yeah, I seem to remember an almost identical review from Q for Suicide Pact. In fact I think they just use the same review each time and cut and paste the album name. Certain magazines just get offended when bands keep going and going despite being very uncool and completely off the chart radar.

Bad T? reviews aside, Q is a horrible magazine, worse even than the NME. The most sychophantic load of dribble I’ve ever read. Almost withouth exception praise is heaped on the big release of the month (Red Hot Chillis this time I think), speaking out against an album that is certain to be huge is almost unheard of.

Why oh why did they make SP…YF at such a crucial stage in their career?! Great tho it is! They should have made HA at that time! The Ark 21 era will be looked back at as being quite a weird time methinks…

They really should have made HA instead of Infernal Love I think, by the time of Suicide Pact the damage was already done.

Re: New album lyrics. in General Therapy? Topics

It’s something that seems to b creeping into T? lyrics more and more.

The thing for me is that T? lyrics often don’t look great until you actually hear the song, then they make a lot more sense.

Yeah, but HA was barely mentioned either and I don’t remember NANE getting a look in. I got the impression they just didn’t have the time to go into all the albums.

Re: Therapy? - BBC2NI 11.20 tonight in General Therapy? Topics

I enjoyed it, dispite the fact that my NTL BBC2 is terrible quality! Similar to that episode of Mr Bean, I had to praticaly sit around the corner from my TV set before I could see anything.

I would have prefered a bit more interview footage than the live stuff - we really only got a history of the band up to Suicide Pact in any kind of detail.

Re: Sprung in General Therapy? Topics

Don’t like it truth be told. It just lumbers along without any real sense of flow to it, and there’s a world weariness to the lyrics that - while entirely understandable - feels very un Therapy? like to me.

Ah well.

Re: Download Sites…??? in Chit-Chat

I’ve used allofmp3.com, and also the russian one mp3search.ru.

Nothing dodgy about either of them - by that I mean that I have never had any suspicious withdrawals from my credit card! I have no idea really about the legally of the sites…but I guess at the end of the day you are paying for the service so I don’t think there could be a problem.
