Stories behind S-D in General Therapy? Topics

Title: Stories behind S-D

Anyone know where that interview with Billy Chainsaw and Andy has gone.I remember it being on the old ‘official’ board, but it seems to have vanished. It was Andy talking about all the songs on Semi Detached and i remember it being a cool read last time i saw it:confused:

Re: most experimental music you ever heard in Other Bands & Artists

Nurse With Wound are one of the more interesting makers of ‘non music’ i’ve come across (ooo-er) their style is hard to describe, but it’s kind of semi improvised noise collage.Kinda like early Can meets Throbbing Gristle.

I’d also feel compelled to mention the likes of Faust, Residents, Zappa, John Zorn/Naked City, Foetus and Wendsleydale Cheese too

Re: Andy singing on the new Wildhearts record in General Therapy? Topics

Arrrrrggghhhh! how could i forget ‘Fishing For Luckies’?.It’s some of their most progressive and eclectic material and you should pick it up after ‘Earth VS’ featuring as it does Do The Channel Bop (which sounds like Devin Townsend:cool: ) Inglorious (which sounds like Metallica) and Sky Babies, which sounds amazing:D

Re: Andy singing on the new Wildhearts record in General Therapy? Topics

I can’t rate them ‘cos i think they’re all really fantastic, but DEFINITELY pick up ‘Earth VS…’ next as it’s one of the best albums ever:cool:

other than that ‘Don’t Be Happy…’ is more on along similar lines (ie: great songs and amazing riffs)and Splattermania alone makes it worth getting.Elsewhere, ‘Anarchic Airwaves’ is a compilation of live BBC tracks that sounds fantasic and is well worth hearing and ‘Landmines and Pantomimes’ is a bunch of unreleased tracks from the ‘PHUQ’ sessions, although it’s a bit patchy.

Their last record ‘Endless Nameless’ divided opinion, actually most folk hated it, mainly because, Gasp!, it was noisy, but i think it’s a work of art and there’s some great songs on there if you persevere (Pissjoy, Now Is The Colour, Thunderfuck etc)

Buy ‘em all you slags! :D

Wildhearts are one of the most consistantly amazing rock’n’roll bands ever.Get ‘Earth VS…’ then buy everything else they ever did ever…

…possibly bypassing the last two singles

‘Policia’ if i remember correctly.I remember reading an interview with Max C who brought it up, but couldn’t remember Mr Cairns’ name and dubbed him “nice, drunk bastard” or something.Obviously made an impression:p

that’s a definite no. brass never works in rock. Do you really want t? to sound like a fucking ska band. One less than jake in the world is one too many.
this should never happen.

Nah i don’t mean like that.I fucking hate ska anyway and, in a way they’ve already done that with ‘Stories’.

I was meaning some ‘Rain Dogs’-era Tom Waits style thing.Sleazy lounge music.I’d rather they were more experimental rather than playing straight ahead punk pop all the time *cue flames*

I think i’d prefer to hear them using more on the brass side of things.More horns on certain tracks.I’d love to hear Mr Cairns doing his Tom Waits/Nick Cave thang over some demented jazz noise:D

Re: The Residents in Other Bands & Artists

The Residents are class.Check out ‘Duck Stab’ and ‘Eskimo’ then do yourself a favour and check out Foetus, the Cardiacs, John Zorn, Nurse With Wound, Legendary Pink Dots and Throbbing Gristle

Re: what other bands/music do you listen to? in Other Bands & Artists

Is this were we post a massive list of bands to prove how eclectic and open minded (or not) we all are?

I’ll pretty much listen to anything so long as it pushes the right buttons. This would usually involve it being interesting, honest and to a lesser degree original (nothing wrong with generic music so long as it has SOMETHING about it)

I know i sometimes tend to unfairly judge band (especially new rock bands) before i’ve heard them which basically comes from the abundance of nu-metal trash that’s been around in the last few years, but i TRY to keep an open mind.

So anyway, my fave bands are…;)

Re: Yeah Yeah Yeahs? in Other Bands & Artists

Prison breaker-so do you like them then?:D

I think they’re great to be honest and i really like the album (Fever To Tell) this is bearing in mind i tend to despise most of the bands championed as “The next big thing TM” by this oh so fickle music press of ours:o

They weren’t so great on Jools Holland a few weeks back, but i’d say their record is worth hearing if you’re a fan of chicky punk ‘n’ roll, which many of you patently aren’t;)

Re: T? with orchestra in General Therapy? Topics

How come?

I don’t see anything wrong with rock bands using orchestration here and there, although i’m not a big fan of Metallica’s album as it didn’t really work that well, probably because the original music had already been written and they were writing the orchestral peices around it.

I’d prefer to hear a few new T? songs written with the strings in mind rather than a bunch of old songs re-recorded with them to be honest, but i’d say it’s unlikely as their musical philosophy now is really ‘stripped down rock ‘n’ roll’

Re: your best T? gig ever? in Therapy? Live

Anyone else see them at Ozzfest ‘98 at Milton Keynes Bowl?

Turning up as last minute replacements for Korn (who i hated anyway) was fine by me, although plenty of others were pissed off about it.Their set was amazing.Really energetic and, um…it’s the only time i’ve ever got to see them:(

Someone else must have been there

Re: TV/Films you have seen T? mentioned in. in General Therapy? Topics

There’s a ‘Teethgrinder’ poster in the movie ‘Naked’ too. Some irish bloke pastes them up before beating the cacka out of David Thewlis.

Great movie:D

Re: Femtex voice in General Therapy? Topics

I reckon it’s Lesley Rankine on the end of ‘Unrequited’ too, she just isn’t credited.

Re: Suicide Pact in General Therapy? Topics

Anyone else notice the main riff to ‘Wall Of Mouths’ is almost exactly the same as the one on ‘Nub’ by the Jesus Lizard?

Subconscious theft?:D

Re: Finally… I’m listening to HA!!! in General Therapy? Topics

Good album, i just wish they had included some weird stuff in the mix, it gets a bit samey after a while, but the songs are solid enough.

I guess my fave records are ‘Suicide Pact’ and ‘Babyteeth’ ‘cos there’s a lot of different styles on there and i think it keeps things interesting.I know Andy said he just wants to make good, straight rock n roll records these days, which is fair enough, but they have a tendancy to stray a bit too close to Green Day and the like at times on the new one

Radical opinions i know;)

Yeah, it looks like Andy this time:eek:

Interesting.

At least he doesn’t just listen to rock all the time, he’s got time for avant-garde-improvisational-noise-collage as well :D

Wonder if he’s into Merzbow :P

Re: no officially released live recording yet? in General Therapy? Topics

A dvd would be cool, especially if they packaged it with all (or at least some) of their promo videos as i’m sure a lot of people have only seen a couple (myself included)
