Message From Martin McCarrick in General Therapy? Topics
Hi All
While going through my loft preparing for a big move I came across a box full of Therapy? Memorabilia including a bunch of T shirts. Most of them are probably unavailable now and some pretty rare, and I think they might find a better home amongst some of you dedicated Therapy? enthusiasts/collectors rather than gathering dust in my attic. None of them have been worn – a little dusty from being stored but other than that in perfect condition. There are also a couple of Suicide Pat mouse mats and an extremely
rare Adidas/Therapy? football strip that was given to the band on one of our tours. If you’re interested in adding to your collection you can find all items on ebay at bargain prices.

Best wishes to you all

Title: A few words from Martin McCarrick
Dear all
Well, it’s been a couple of weeks now since the news of my departure from Therapy? hit WOM and my sincere apologies for not responding to you earlier. To be honest, it seemed to me only fair to allow one of the remaining members of Therapy? to offer an explanation to their original statement first, especially as there were some pretty negative responses to the news.
Whether you feel these responses are justified or not - it’s sad to see that it seems to have caused such disquiet amongst some of you. This is never what I, or (I’m sure) Andy, Michael or Neil would have wanted to happen and maybe some of you need to realise that this is not worth falling out over. Having said that - this message board is yours and it is there for you to voice your opinions and thoughts, positive or otherwise and my respect goes to all those who were brave enough to say, honestly, how they felt. I don’t think any of you were taking sides, but rather showing a certain style of devotion to Therapy? - something I have been proud to be a part of for so long.
To you all, I’d like to say how sorry I am that this had to happen. Our last European tour was one of the best, but ended abruptly for me due to a serious illness, so I had hoped to rejoin the guys for forthcoming live shows, but relationships and dynamics within the band had changed and future work together was not to be. Ultimately - what is done is done and the time has now come to move on.
I am now fully recovered from my illness and have some exciting new projects to consider and I will shortly make a post with my website address to which you can mail me if you wish to know what I’m up to. Ultimate respect goes out to all of you that have wished me well - the chances are strong that you will see me again. You guys ROCK!
Finally - my very best wishes go to Therapy?. I had some of the best times ever with those guys, through the highs and the lows - and the memories will never fade. So it is that I say, not only to Andy and Michael, but to Graham, to Fyfe and to Neil - Thanks for the good times - and here’s to the future.

Re: is martin back yet?? in General Therapy? Topics
Hi all! Yeah Yeah Yeah - love all the ‘deaf’ jokes, but they’ll soon be redundant as I’m now doing much better and will be out on tour without a doubt. I reckon ear protection may take up a fair amount of space in my suit case for a while. I’m yet to plug in a guitar and play at volume number 11 - but I’m more than ready to give it a go.

Re: Body Bag Girl…is shit. in General Therapy? Topics
I have to say - I like Body Bag Girl. We played it live a few times and it was great - a nod to sleazy glam rock although it’s meant to be more Iggy Pop (Nightclubbin) than The Glitter Band, with some Rolling Stones Woo Hoo’s at the end (Sympathy for the Devil). We were jamming in the studio one day and decided to swap instruments. It was the first and probably the last time! Andy is playing Bass, Michael and Graham are on guitar and shame of all shame - it’s me on the drums. Dave Lombardi eat your heart out!

Re: Martin is here in General Therapy? Topics
Alfred Hitchcock Rocks! No real favourites at the moment as they all have their own merits. The Birds is probably one of the best ‘anxiety’ movies of all time, (along with Roman Polanski’s ‘Repulsion’) and of course it stars Tippi Hedron who is just gorgeous especially when she’s slightly desheveled..er… I also love Spellbound - especially the Salvador Dali dream sequence, and ‘The Trouble With Harry’ is great. It looks as if the film has been hand coloured - weird. With such illuminaries, such genius, such beauty - do we really want to watch Kilroy?

Re: The day Kilroy went mad… in Chit-Chat
Good subject and I’ve just laughed my head off! Nice one guys. In my own (humble) view - Kilroy should have been removed from our screens years ago. He was a dreadful member of the labour party and has proved himself an even worse TV presenter. The only reason he has been ‘on air’ for so long is that he owns the company that produces his show! He feeds on other peoples misery (could be a song title there)and is a sanctimonious arrogant learing shit head. Publishing his narrow minded views on the Arab nations just serves to show the real level of his intelligence. Calling the Arab nation a bunch of limb amputating suicide bombers is like calling the British a bunch of murdering football hooligans which would be the most ridiculous generalisation to something that could only apply to a miniscule percentage of our population.I have such a hatred for racists (of which Kilroy is one) but have to say that in this case - his views finally got him removed from tv. Hoorah for his downfall!
As for Trish - well her programme in general still takes it’s subject matter from dyfunctional families and individuals and is SHIT but it at least offers help to those involved and boy! from what I’ve seen - some of them need it. As for Trish having ‘Noshers’ lips - maybe I’m watching the wrong Trish. Perish the thought! If you want sexy tv - tune in a little earlier and watch Elizabeth Montgomery in ‘Bewitched’. She is (quite literally) magic!
NOW - stop watching trashy tv and go listen to some GOOD music.:D

Hello all and Happy New Year 2004.
The patient is doing much better thanks. I’m not 100% - but I was warned that full recovery would take a while, but I’m feeling really good generally and am looking forward to a healthy 2004. My last hearing tests and nerve tests showed improvement which is a great sign - I just have to be patient and let the healing process take it’s course so I’m using my time off to write a bit, to rest a bit and to re-aquaint myself with the movies of Alfred Hitchcock which are out there on DVD now. Excellent!

Ah Ronald! Well I may be a day or so late, but chances are you just woken up from the biggest birthday hangover of your life so far.
A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you. See you in 2004

Good looking nurses? Actually there were a couple who were really cute and the Ear Specialist was pretty foxy too. It could have been a lot worse!;)

Today the patient is doing well. Complete recovery is going to be a slow process but I’m feeling good - definitely a lot better than I was feeling this time last week. The hearing in my left ear is gradually returning which is a relief - going deaf wasn’t exactly on my christmas wish list - and hopefully I’ll be well on my way to perfect health in the New Year. :D - Martin

That’s a fine idea Ronald! Maybe if you lend me a good ear, I could lend you a good foot so you can get down the front of the show again. I’m not allowed to drink until I’m better - I sure you can sympathise with me over that one. If I was in Holland you could have had my beer!

Title: More News From The Patient
Well, once again I have to thank you all for your get well wishes and messages of support since I became ill and had to leave the tour. You’ve all helped to keep my spirits up through what has been a tough time, and I’ve no doubt that you are helping to speed up my recovery.
When I left the tour from Nottingham on saturday, I had a perforated eardrum, was almost deaf in my left ear and was in constant pain. I had hoped to rest at home for a few days, then return to the tour, but my condition got steadily worse and I was finaly admitted to hospital on wednesday morning. I’ve never been admittd to hospital before and it was really strange.I lay in bed with tubes sticking out of my arms and nurses asking me endless questions. None of the doctors seemed to know what was wrong with me, and each time one doctor examined me, they would send for another to get an alternative opinion. At one point I had 7 doctors around me, all sticking microscopes into my ears, and muttering about my ‘condition’. One day turned into four, and they finally diagnosed an unusual virus that attacks the middle ear and the nerves to the ear and face. I’m still partially deaf in my left ear and am not well enough to return to the tour which is a huge dissapointment. The good news is that I’m responding well to the treatment and I’m expected to make a full recovery - although it will take time. Today is the final show of the tour and as it’s in London I’ll be going along to visit the guys for a couple of hours - its going to be good to see them again and catch up on whats been happening in my absence.
Lastly I want to thank you all for helping to make this tour so brilliant and for keeping a smile on my face when my head was hurting like a muthafucka.
Till the next time…
Martin

Title: From the Horses Mouth
Hello all. It’s good to hear that you are concerned that I’m missing from shows at the moment but I can confirm that this is due to illness and not because of any bad feeling amongst the band. Until this illness hit me I was having an amazing time on tour, enjoying the shows and the company of the band and crew so there’s nothing to worry about. If I look a little unhappy onstage at times it’s possibly due to onstage sound problems, or maybe there’s sweat stinging my eyes, or who knows - there could be a whole bunch of reasons - possibly I’ve just run out of beer!.
For T?Anoraks - Andy once played Trombone, and as for Therapy? with a Tuba - that’s just silly!

Title: Gardening Accidents????
OK… now you guys are killing me with sympathy! Seriously - your messages are really appreciated and it’s good to feel some contact with you all even though I’m not able to be at the shows. I’ve spent the last three nights reading and watching TV and being quiet:( when what I really want to do is strap on the flying V and rock with the rest of you.
So.. Bizarre Gardening Accidents Huh! I think Michaels imagination is possibly more fertile than most gardens, and the suggestion that we might do the gardening ‘together’ is quite frightening. Sitting in the garden ‘drinking’ together - now that is a definite possibility, you’ll find us doing that in the summer, but you won’t find us sharing the same lawnmower or picking tulips. But hey… let your imaginations run wild…
Much respect to you all - Martin

Title: Martin is here
Hello all. Martin T? here! Thanks to all of you that have sent get well wishes via the message board - your detective work is very impressive and the diagnosis is correct I do have a perforated ear drum which is stopping me from performing. At the moment,I have to wait until the doctors give me the ‘all clear’ before I can return to the tour - going back any earlier could cause permanent damage, but I’m determined I’ll be back, and soon! This tour has been the best - I’ve loved every moment, and believe me it was a really tough decision to decide to leave and head for home, but I’m anxious to get better and the best way to do that is to rest and stay away from loud music. In the meantime I know that Andy, Neil and Michael will be keeping my side of the stage warm until I return. Until then rockers - even though you can’t see me ’ I’m there in spirit all the way - Get Drunk -Head Bang! Martin
