Re: The Manics New Song in Other Bands & Artists
I’m a bit sceptical. I got to know the Manics because of the singles from EMG, remained a fan for the next few years. I liked Know your enemy a lot. Next; they cancel their European tour, because their record company told them to write and record new songs for a best of, because KYE didn’t sell. Lifeblood, for me, was a big disappointment. I was planning on not buying this new record or going to see them in Amsterdam (I still have never seen them live).
I can imagine people saying in a few months “you know, SATT wasn’t that good after all”, because they mereley hope and want it to be.
Is it really good?

Re: New T? double A-side? in General Therapy? Topics
Plebians is indeed the only unreleased song from the album sessions so this would be a logical choice. Perhaps some live-recordings?

Re: T? in Utrecht in Therapy? Live
Really great show. Fist one I saw during this leg of the tour. On purpose I didn’t read any of the earlier reviews, or setlists. But at least for my own pleasure I’ll post the setlist below.
Fantastic to finally hear Meat abstract live. Also the return of He’s not that kind of girl was appreciated. Fun to have Diamond Dave up there doing some singin and dancing!
The fist half of the setlist was really cool and indeed interesting but as soon as they started playing Potato junkie I knew “oh, and know they’re gonna play Stories and five or-so songs from Troublegum. Which they DID, so that was a bit predictable. Als Diane made a return, after it wasn’t played during the fist leg. Must admit that I enjoyed this arrangement. WAY better than the Andy-solo version I guess.
Hilarious moment was when Andy asked if there was a red light district in Utrecht and refused to play until they could understand what people were yelling. “Just tell us the name of a street!”
And here goes (maybe the same as earlier shows, I realy wouldn’t know):
01 Meat abstract
02 Turn
03 Gimme back my brain
04 This ship is sinking
05 Rust
06 If it kills me
07 Church of noise
08 Hes not that kind of girl
09 Rock you monkeys
10 Perish the thought
11 Polar bear
12 Stories
13 Potato junkie
14 Isolation / Shes lost control
15 Diane
16 Neck freak
17 Teethgrinder
18 Die laughing
19 Screamager
————————————————
20 Nowhere
21 Knives

Re: Amsterdam - Melkweg 22 Nov in Therapy? Live
I thought this was a pretty good show as well. Highlights: The song dedicated to Ronald “because of his drinking problem; If it kills me”. Nice one Ronald! The polarbear mask on the balcony (I hope Andy wasn’t on LSD, it looked pretty scary), All the new songs, really really good. If they had only played new songs I would have left the Melkweg a happy man.
Did anyone meet the band after the show? (I know 3DDO had an appointment behind the tourbus for instance :)), they seemed very appreciative of the crowd(reaction). The new songs were greeted very warmly, also cool that there were more people beside myself who cheered when Andy announced that the next song was from SP-YF.
After reading other reviwes, i’m just a bit dissapointed they didn’t play any Babyteeth stuff. Epilepsy was a nice surprise though, never heard that one before live. And before this show I couldn’t really care about the amount of stuff off Troublegum, but I AM getting a bit tired of Turn, Isolation and Die laughing now.
And can’t say I missed Martin very much, only on a couple of times when Andy played solos or during Sister when Michael didn’t sing. His ‘precense’ was missed, he did add to the dynamics on stage, for example with his occasional stagedive. I still remember very well, when T? played in Rotterdam when Martin literally threw off his guitar mid-song during Potato Junkie, thought “fuck it” and dived into the crowd. Maniac.
Andy said “till next year” I hope so!

Re: Ideal set list???? in Therapy? Live
This is one of my favorite things to do when I’m in class!
I already made one, but I don’t have it with me right now. As long as they play a lot off Troublegum, Suicide pact and Never apologise with some Babyteeth and High anxiety I’m a happy camper.
Let’s see. In no particular order:
Dancin with manson
Teethgrinder
Potato junkie
Knives
Screamager
Nowhere
Stop it you’re killing me
Stories
Epilepsy
Church of noise
He’s not that kind of girl
Wall of mouths (only problem: no Martin McC.)
Sister
Little tongues first
I am the money
Hey satan you rock
Rust
If it kills me
Rise up
Perish the thought
Here be monsters
Rock you monsters
Panic!
Long distance
roll on 22 november!!!

Re: what became of tracks 14-19? in General Therapy? Topics
Just finished re-reading the diary since June.
The band had written 19 songs prior to the recordings. These were the 13 eventually released, plus 6 others (including Old Europe, Plebians, Walked through darkness).
In early June the band demo’d 18 songs at The Hive (Old Euope was decide not strong enough)
Of these 18 only 14 were recorded during the actual album sessions in mid- late June. Plebians was te one that didn’t make the cut.

Title: Leftovers from NANE?
So the band had written 19 songs before they started recording. Does anybody know the titles of the songs that didn’t make the record?
Were some of those 6 songs also recorded during the albumsessions in June? (And could be possible contenders for b-sides?)

The live tracks are on the Cd(-Rom)… but: you probably already have them, it’s Who knows and Teethgrinder from the Scopophobia DVD…
I got it at Velvet records in Rotterdam. You can probably find it at any Plato, Sounds or Velvet in your neigbourhood 3DDO…

Re: echo and the therapy? in General Therapy? Topics
After a short listen: YES! There’s definetely a similarity especially in the opening riff. (Not a guitarist or a musician or something) It sounds the same, alright. well it’s probably a small tribute from Andy I guess.
Fiestaboy, you have quite a few recent songs in your list with favorites. Good! i saw them last year and they played only one song from recent years: “Rust” and Ian McCullough also improvised a chorus of “What are you…” during “Ocean rain”. Bit dissapointed by the otherwise completely 80’s setlist.
not_that_kind_of_guy: Well, do you suggest we don’t talk openly about our love relationship then?

If anybody can help me with obtaining a recording of T?’s show in Rotterdam during the Retrospective tour (october 2000) I’d be SO gratful. I was at the show and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. I know that it’s floating around because i have heard a mp3 of the first song “Fat camp”.

Re: What song or moment first got you into therapy? in General Therapy? Topics
I’m surprised I’m actually one of the most recent fans. I became a fan in the summer of 1998, the semi-detached days.
i would be going the the Lowlands festival in Holland a few weeks later and T? were to play. I already knew Diane, Stories and the moest recent single Church of noise. I lent Infernal love and S-D at the library, taped them (oh… the nostalgia). I listened to it over and over to prepare for the show in august at the festival.
well, that show was so awesome (it’s been bootlegged so some of you would know it) and thought they were good, but great. Until I was in the library again some time later and saw they had a new T? release.
Suicide pact - you first. From then on: Fan for life
