Re: The end for Velvet Revolver in Other Bands & Artists
I like(d) them. Hope they continue in one form or another.
On the upside, STP are back together.

Re: new stuff (Clowns Galore) in General Therapy? Topics
April Fool’s or not, I don’t see any reason why T? shouldn’t produce their own album. They have so much experience at this stage that as long as they have a good engineer I’m confident they’d produce a fine album.

Re: Dr Pepper vs Guns n Roses…?! in Other Bands & Artists
I care in a sort of ‘gossip mag’ kind of way. I’m interested in the making of the album and how the fuck it’s not out yet and can cost so much, rather than the content. I’m sure if it is released that it will eventually end up in my record collection, much in the same way as a GnR and STP fan I have the bought the Velvet Revolver cds (which are good).

Re: Dr Pepper vs Guns n Roses…?! in Other Bands & Artists
Could this be a sign the damned thing may see the light of day?
Corporate sponsorship to recoup the costs and an immediate and positive response from AXl. Any way, if it comes out on the same day as the T? album I know which one I’ll be buying.

Re: new stuff (Clowns Galore) in General Therapy? Topics
Can’t believe how much I enjoyed that given it’s just a rough jam recorded on a single mic.
I’m excited, but that’s probably because my jeans are too tight!

Re: mp3 player advice in Chit-Chat
Seems to be a mixed reaction to the Creative Zen. At the moment I’ve got a 4gb Zen, but the headphone socket is playing up, have to keep adjusting the wire. At first I thought I needed new headphones, but no, it’s the device itself. Also, it’s out of warrenty, so can’t return it.
@ deadsetgav - looking at spending about €200, maybe more if I see something I think is worth it.
@ butters - I was always more an ‘aiwa’ man than a ‘sony’ man.

mp3 player advice in Chit-Chat
Thinking of buying a new mp3 player. All I want is a device with a decent capacity (8gb or or more) and that’s reliable. Not interested in going blind looking at videos.
Any recommendations, warnings, gratefully accepted.

Correct. Quality, not quantity, as the bishop said to the actress.

I think long albums hinder a band more than help. Soundgarden would be an example - I think all their albums were too long and didn’t quite get the acclaim the band deserved. “Superunknown” is a brilliant album but not many people would have the patience to sit through it’s 73 minutes in one go! Imagine if they cut it back to 40 minutes, I think they would really have taken off. I know they were popular, but never in the same league as Nirvana, for example.
Good point! I love Soundgarden, but often don’t put on their cds for the very reason.
Album length doesn’t doesn’t necessarily mean value for money. Before music went digital (and I mean from when cds started to get popular) album length wasn’t something people thought about as there was no timer counting the song duration on a turntable or tape deck.
St. Anger is probably the only long, heavy album I have that when a I put it on I get bored with and my mind starts to wander to things like doing the dishes. Occasionally put it on full blast to piss off the neighbours, unfortunately I usually ended up just pissing myself off.

Re: What’s EveryOne watching in Chit-Chat
Just finished the new Lost episodes, so I’m finally up to date with the goings ons with Jack and Locke and their merry bunch of orienteerers.

I haven’t. Actually, for a Pavement fan I’ve heard very little of Stephen Malkmus’ stuff.
Recommendations?

Moldy Peaches? Know nothing about their music.

Pavement - Wowee Zowee: Sordid Sentinels Edition
Pavement - Slanted & Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe
Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain: LA’s Desert Origins
Carlsberg don’t do album re-issues, but if they did, they’d probably be the Pavement re-issues!

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
St. Anger may well have been their ‘Be Here Now’. You won’t realise the effect it’s had on their sales until the following album. Having said that, metal and rock fans tend to be a bit more loyal than indie fans.

I misread the title of thread and thought it said “Guess who’s ass I just had in my hand”.
Very disappointed when it turned out to be Danny McCormack.

I’ve seen James Hetfield sober. Unfortunately the best a sober Hetfield can come up with is St. Anger.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
You’re damn right! Damage Inc. is the album I like.
S&M is okay, but nothing special.
New album will be influenced by where they are now and their 80’s stuff. The new song goes Hit the lights, I’m trying to read the property section

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
Put on St. Anger about 2 weeks ago because I’d just watched ‘Some Kind Of Monster’ and the riffs they use as incidental music in the movie always sound good. Alas, the album’s still shite.
S&M, even though it’s a covers album, is great.
I like Load and ReLoad, in an over indulgent, Use Your Illusion kind of way.
The new album? Well, I certainly won’t be buying it on the day it comes out. In fact, it’s unlikely I’ll be buying it the year it comes out.
