Re: New British comedy in Chit-Chat

having been totally ignored on my advice to watch ‘Flight of the Conchords’ - has anyone else watched it??? :-(
Last night’s episode on BBC4 was bloody hilarious - they were on tour being ‘rock n roll’ stars quite by accident!

Re: Mass WoMble meet up..? in Chit-Chat

whats wrong with Nightwish - they’re great!! Anyway living in the great metropolis that is Leeds I have met a few WoMbles at gigs and of course Hooch is a lovely person who comes and buys pints of Vodka off me on a regular basis :-D
I have met a few more of you at gigs in the past but names escape me these days..
I would love to meet you Mrs Hooch! - get herself to bring you along to a Varieties special (but maybe not last night cos there was lots of swearing and it was way past our bedtime when Russell Howard left the stage :-D )

we should do a Leeds meet up??

Re: New British comedy in Chit-Chat

you -have-all-got-to-watch- ‘Flight of the ConChords’ on saturday night at 00.25 on BBC4 (repeat of Tuesday night’s episode). It’s the funniest thing this side of buttered bread…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/conchords/

It’s a very gentle, improvised, observational ‘real life’ style of comedy in the style of ‘the office’..about a band called ‘The Flight of the ConChords’ who are the 4th biggest Digi-folk act in New Zealand, and have now come to New York to seek fame and fortune. Their hapless manager, Murray (who is also the assistant cultural attache to NZ in NYC) guides their misfortunes..and each episode features a musical break out in the style of a famous pop video of recent times. In recent weeks we’ve seen ‘Urban Pressure’ (in the style of Pet Shop Boys West End Girls) and a hilarious Bowie tribute this week just gone (the one thats on saturday night!) in which the ghost of Bowie advises one of the band to wear an eye patch to make himself look more mysterious, and he loses all depth perception with humourous results!
Not to everyone’s taste, but i like it so much i’ve ordered the DVD already - 12 episodes (that and its filmed on location in NY and i like it there :-D ). It was originally on the Radio, with Rob Brydon narrating.

Watch out for the hilarious NZ Tourism posters in Murray’s office - advertising the charms of NZ with such gems as ‘New Zealand - like Lord of the Rings only a bit better’! and ‘NZ - it’s cool!’.

bloody hilarious…

That you shall. And you shall also swipe me a copy of their most recent album if they leave any lying around, and also some fresh quiche :) Thank you :) Live long and prosper, MonkFish :)

Iron and Whine…
Unfortunately i didn’t get to swipe anything - i didn’t even see the outside of the bar last night such was the awfulness of the support act (which meant we had a constant stream of peoples from about 7 onwards wanting beer! how dare they want to buy stuff off me - i’m only there to watch the show!). After i’d waded through the hordes of people wanting to get in and see him off the street (sold out but there were people trying to bribe the Box Office staff for a place at the back!!) i did manage to catch some of the show - he’s very beardy isn’t he..and he was definitely going for the Guiness book of records with ‘how many instruments and/or musicians can we fit on one piddly stage’ record…it was amazing..the glockenspiel person was virtually sat on top of the bongo-ist at the back of the stage and i lost count of guitarists…it was quite groovy though - not quite my cuppa but still not bad :-D

I really like Iron and Wine. I think ‘The Devil Tree’ is an amazing song (I had it as my ring tone for a bit (but it meant i missed all my calls because I always wanted to get past the intro). Anyway I will do something very terrible with your quiche if you say it’s not so

Mrs H - i’ve just checked in the fridge and actually i can’t tell whether the Broccoli has got a bit lively or whether its gone mouldy..i think its heading for the bin!!!

I shall cast an ear into the theatre tonight and have a listen to Mr Iron and Wine…

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

He’s a nice bloke! he just sort of took up residence in the corner..his tour manager is from Leeds so all his family were there and we all just sort of sat for a bit and chatted…

We were reminiscing about the time back in about 1997 when we saw him at the Newcastle Gulbenkian theatre (and he remembers this…) a lass from the front row went to wrong way to the loos during the show (she actually went out a fire exit by accident onto the street and only found her way back in for 2nd half!) and in revenge for getting up and going he jumped off the stage, rifled through her pockets and got her purse out and proceeded to go through the entire contents of her purse laying every item out carefully on the front of the stage - he kept her work swipe card though to see if she’d notice it was missing!!! Her friends thought it was hilarious and you should have seen her face when she wandered back in during the interval and gradually noticed the entire contents of her purse neatly laid out on the stage!!! it was v funny and he came back on with 2 bottles of beer for her to say sorry in the second half!! he just completely abandoned his act and for about 15 mins just went through all her switch receipts and purchases it was very funny!!

And do you remember Elvis the Spider from Sean’s Show (which apparently is available on DVD now..?)

You see - if you get to be a Vol you might get to meet famous people!! :-D

Today I listened to Smudge and The Shirehorses and felt very old.

Shire horses!! ahhh blast from the past mate!! My favourite is ‘Now we know where we’re going to (our kid)’ which was a skit of the old Seahorses song..i just like the way they reference places in the UK..’Budleigh Salterton?? thats nowhere bloody near Inverness’ and the eloquent rhyming of ‘we’re on the A47 and we’re fast approaching Devon (shall we stop off for a jar?) ’

hehe happy times…

Oh and Hooch i still have some QUICHE in my fridge if you want some :-P (it was for staff only so couldn’t very well give it out in the middle of interval but if you’d waited…!)

Seah Hughes would not go home either- he was in my bar until about midnight and we were all reminiscing about past gigs we’d seen of him…

Am currently listening to the Dandy Warhols (heroin is so passe!) and The Used…trying to offest having to sit through ‘Iron and Wine’ - alt folk rock at the bloody theatre tonight!!! Aghhhhhh |- I

Re: Wow, you have a category for new members? in New Members (Introduce Yourself)

oooh watch it mate…as a ‘football’ loving nation (thats the proper football) you are skating on thin ice!!! *lol*
We were having a giggle on holiday in Thailand - we had ESPN and were watching LA Galaxy v Real Salt Lake and it was hilarious watching them..equivalent to a sunday morning pub football game..will ‘Soccer’ ever take off in the states..??
but then again, when i went to see a london Monarchs v Scottish claymores game in the 90’s with a mate from New York, he was falling about laughing as apparently we were ‘a bit crap’ at American football…suppose thats why its faded here and maybe why the NFL are coming over…
I try, i do try and sit there and work out what on earth they are doing other than tw*tting the hell out of each other with their helmets but i do get confused…i can understand Cricket and thats bloody difficult so thought it might click..but alas no..I shall be on Wikipedia!!!

3rd and 6..
2nd and 10 EH??? :-s *lol*
