Re: ‘a’ in Other Bands & Artists

I think you’re right. It had a time and place, but it just sounds a bit dated now, and Jason Perry’s helium voice grates after a while. Though they still do have some class songs. Jason produced the last McFly album worryingly enough…

With regard to the Take That cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit, how about this one from Paul Anka… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsS811o21-k&feature=related

Which would you consider to be the best and worst of Andy’s “looks” over the years - the trucker beard? The frilly suits? The quiff?

What are the things that you still would like to achieve before hanging up your proverbial hats?

Happy birthday to meeeee…

And everyone else born on this day of days, of course. And Holly Valance, who is also 24 today. :D

Re: Therapy songs by fans in General Therapy? Topics

Reason is indeed cool. If you’re not up for paying the £300ish price tag, you might be able to get Reason Adapted for a bit less.

Cool version btw!

Re: Help Me Choose A Band Logo in Other Bands & Artists

I’d go with number one. Not so sure about the name though! But what do I know, I used to be in a band called Peter Pants and the Wendy Dolls…

They have gone through a few drummers.

Deftones are still the same aren’t they? and Fugazi are a band from the 80’s that still have the same members.

Well, they’ve had a fifth member since the 3rd album (played as a guest on the 2nd).

Rage Against The Machine? Pantera? (not the early spandex days, of course!) You could say Queen, I suppose, as technically it’s now Queen & Paul Rodgers. Shameful.

Re: Bands That Change Frontmen in Other Bands & Artists

Sorry, I’ve come into this chat a bit late, don’t check the board as much as I should!

Matt Sorum is a pretty shitty drummer, it has to be said. On all the slower GnR songs he plays the same boring fill, over and over. And he looks like a tit, with or without the big curly hair.

Looking back at it, Blaze-era Maiden was fucking shameful! I defended it staunchly at the time, as I was (still am) a huge Maiden fan and he was very charismatic, yet it’s bad enough having someone who can barely hits the notes when you start off, but following Bruce Dickinson, for god’s sake, that’s just ridiculous!

Anathema have been better in their later incarnations than the old Darren White days, imho.

Re: HELMET - new album in Other Bands & Artists

It’s OK. Never been a big fan of that spastic guitar soloing Page does, and it’s on this album in abundance. Still, plenty good songs on here!

Re: Michael McK in General Therapy? Topics

Nah, Michael’s singing voice is not to be shown off! He does a good job as backing vocalist, but as stated above, he’d probably the first to admit he can’t carry a note that well.

But he couldn’t possibly be as bad as Iron Maiden’s harmonies on live versions of Can I Play With Madness…

Re: Why was Andy left out???? in General Therapy? Topics

I think it was an interview he did with Mörat where he complained about being in Europe complaining about paying money to play to “a bunch of people who MIGHT buy our record”. Also claiming he’d seen the entire world, so touring was no longer interesting to him. Etc etc.

Re: what position did OCFA enter at? in General Therapy? Topics

Well, I would have bought it in England like I’ve done the others (mainly because I still lived there), but I couldn’t bear waiting for the postage time! So that’s one fewer UK sale accounted for. And I’m assuming the 1488 only applies to those chart-registered shops, not the little mungo ones. You shouldn’t forget too, that Therapy? are up against the bands who get their records in Tescos so that idiots can go round and go “ooh, David Gray” when they’re buying their Corn Flakes rather than setting foot inside a record shop and seeing the alternatives.

Title: Official OCFA reviews? (merged)

Anyone seen any OCFA reviews yet? I’m assuming with it being a bank holiday weekend in the UK last weekend the journos were too lazy to put it in last week, and I’m assuming it’ll probably only be rock mags and fanzines now, but anyone read one yet?

Re: OCFA what do you think? in General Therapy? Topics

Shut up, shut up, SHUT UP ALL OF YOU!!!

Some of us can’t afford it til we get paid on Friday!

Anyone know if it’s easy to find in Germany? I’m still getting used to the fact that actual MUSIC shops are pretty hard to come across, it’s mainly divisions of electrical stores/chemists. Odd.

Still, you’re all bastards and I hate you. I’m off to download it off Limewire. Ahem. ;)

Re: Fall out boy, panic! at the disco are the shape of punk to come! Who DISAGREES (I do) in Other Bands & Artists

Ah, because we’re older than you, and we’ve learnt to be cynical about everything, whether we like the item/concept etc or not. It’s the way of things.

I think the bile rose in my throat for the first time aged 17, when Limp Bizkit’s popularity eclipsed that of the vastly superior Deftones.

Actually, who am I kidding? I raged against Oasis when I was a die-hard Maiden fan aged 11…

Re: Fall out boy, panic! at the disco are the shape of punk to come! Who DISAGREES (I do) in Other Bands & Artists

*Back to topic*

Fall Out Boy is Radioactive Man’s sidekick in the Simpsons. And the band sucks. I feel like I’m getting old, I’m only 22 (and 11 twelfths), but I just don’t like most of the stuff coming out now. It seems to just be pseudo-Iron Maiden or pseudo-Clash/Jam.

Not wanting to get myself in trouble, but…

Yeah, so she may be hot there, but

a) that’s 8 years ago. I have about half as much hair now as I did in 1998, and I no longer go to school.

b) she’s had at least 2 kids since then, so she’s unlikely to still look like that in her negligé, particularly as she’s now 38.

(Waits for torrent of deserved abuse from female quarters)

Re: Bass Players in Chit-Chat

I had an argument with sb about that once, I said it was self-indulgent outside of a G3 gig to do a 10-minute solo, and she said if the guitarist can play that well, why shouldn’t he be allowed to show off how well he can play? To which I remarked that the only gig she had been to was Eminem, and one of her favourite albums was ‘Brothers In Arms’. In response to which she shut her mouth.
