Re: Anathema in Other Bands & Artists
Saw them in Munich in a venue much too big for a band that haven’t released an album of ‘new’ material in 5 years, was pretty much empty. But they still put on a great show, very pretentious at times of course, but really looking forward to ‘Horizons’ coming out next year.
@Gimme: I’d recommend ‘Judgement’ (sounds like a heavier Pink Floyd) or ‘A Fine Day To Exit’. Didn’t like ‘A Natural Disaster’ as much.

Dearly Beheaded’s second album ‘Chamber of One’ if you can get hold of it. Very cool.

My brother would no doubt piss himself on being reminded of the late-80s thrash band “Lunatics Without Skateboards, Inc.”

That is pretty damn cool. Always been a Patton fan, even if some of his stuff is a bit too ‘out there’ for me.

Nah, he sings vocals on the chorus, the “A train of thought…” bit.

That would be bloody brilliant! Sounds more speculative than definite, sadly, but we can hope!

Re: Hungover Housemate Awakener in Other Bands & Artists
Anyone who uses ‘Load’ by Metallica to wake people up is a dick. Ahem.
I agree with ‘The Great Southern Trendkill’. That is an evil start to an album. ‘Hit The Lights’ is also a good one because it fades in and you can keep cranking up the volume!

Re: ‘a’ in Other Bands & Artists
I think you’re right. It had a time and place, but it just sounds a bit dated now, and Jason Perry’s helium voice grates after a while. Though they still do have some class songs. Jason produced the last McFly album worryingly enough…

I’d go with number one. Not so sure about the name though! But what do I know, I used to be in a band called Peter Pants and the Wendy Dolls…

Deftones are still the same aren’t they? and Fugazi are a band from the 80’s that still have the same members.
Well, they’ve had a fifth member since the 3rd album (played as a guest on the 2nd).
Rage Against The Machine? Pantera? (not the early spandex days, of course!) You could say Queen, I suppose, as technically it’s now Queen & Paul Rodgers. Shameful.

Re: Bands That Change Frontmen in Other Bands & Artists
Sorry, I’ve come into this chat a bit late, don’t check the board as much as I should!
Matt Sorum is a pretty shitty drummer, it has to be said. On all the slower GnR songs he plays the same boring fill, over and over. And he looks like a tit, with or without the big curly hair.
Looking back at it, Blaze-era Maiden was fucking shameful! I defended it staunchly at the time, as I was (still am) a huge Maiden fan and he was very charismatic, yet it’s bad enough having someone who can barely hits the notes when you start off, but following Bruce Dickinson, for god’s sake, that’s just ridiculous!
Anathema have been better in their later incarnations than the old Darren White days, imho.

It’s OK. Never been a big fan of that spastic guitar soloing Page does, and it’s on this album in abundance. Still, plenty good songs on here!

Ah, because we’re older than you, and we’ve learnt to be cynical about everything, whether we like the item/concept etc or not. It’s the way of things.
I think the bile rose in my throat for the first time aged 17, when Limp Bizkit’s popularity eclipsed that of the vastly superior Deftones.
Actually, who am I kidding? I raged against Oasis when I was a die-hard Maiden fan aged 11…

*Back to topic*
Fall Out Boy is Radioactive Man’s sidekick in the Simpsons. And the band sucks. I feel like I’m getting old, I’m only 22 (and 11 twelfths), but I just don’t like most of the stuff coming out now. It seems to just be pseudo-Iron Maiden or pseudo-Clash/Jam.

The new one’s quite good though, lucky, cos if they’d released another Shatterproof, I would’ve given up on them!

Re: 3 Colours Red on Radio 6 in Other Bands & Artists
I seem to remember it was ‘Repeat To Fade’ speed, and hella heavy. But I’ve not heard it since the November 2002 tour, so don’t trust me! The bastard thing is I dunno where I’m gonna be living (ie which country) on the release date, so I’m not gonna be able to hear it for a while longer. Oh well, when you’ve waited over 2 years…

Re: 3 Colours Red on Radio 6 in Other Bands & Artists
Well, to a lot of people music’s still a commodity, that they can get easily just by turning on the radio or TV. To those of us that have actually gone out and found it, because it was always harder to find in the first place, it means so much more because we’ve actually sought it out. With the increase in internet downloading it makes it easier for people to get to what they want, which can end up in them not looking beyond that. I wish Kerrang! TV would show a wider set of videos - it wouldn’t exactly do them any harm to have a greater playlist, and it would certainly open peoples’ minds up to different bands, to use a cliché.

Re: 3 Colours Red on Radio 6 in Other Bands & Artists
Yeah, I know, sucks doesn’t it? I think K!’s got a little greedy too…
And it also sucks that the TV station isn’t under the magazine’s control, it’s all under EMAP. So bands that might get featured in the mag have no chance of getting their vids shown on the station.
And of course 3CR being on a small label aren’t going to get the promotion they need without paying for a lot of it out of their own pockets.
What pisses me off is, Kerrang! was the first real large-scale magazine to give us rock fans an alternative to the shite, and now it’s become like all the rest. And I don’t consider Metal Hammer to be that good a read, ditto RockSound, and Terrorizer’s a bit heavy for my taste. So I’m screwed! ;)

Re: 3 Colours Red on Radio 6 in Other Bands & Artists
You’re right, they do take it as gospel, and when I was 14 I suppose I did the same. I know that Kerrang! has gone downhill in recent years, it became a big money-grabbing-hype-obsessed machine, and while they still have most of the same writers into the same stuff as they were, it seems nowadays you have to delve further and further to find good stuff among the shit! Yes, they do still review stuff like Deicide etc, but it just seems pointless, as so many people I used to know like me who used to buy it week in week out have given up on it, because what they seem most interested in now is latching on to the latest trend, at the expense of actual quality music (regardless of sales), which they cover in ever-decreasing amounts. In ‘the old days’, bands had to earn a cover. Now shit pop stuff comes out, gets a top ten hit and immediately Kerrang!’s all over it with an 8 page story!
I dunno, maybe it’s just that I’ve outgrown it. I don’t really care about what CKY’s latest wacky act is (that’s another thing - when did Kerrang! stop being a rock mag and become a lifestyle mag?). They don’t call the music rock or metal or punk anymore, they now have this vague all-encompassing banner ‘Music With Attitude’, which is just an excuse to cover any shit that sells! And frankly, I expect better from a mag that used to be such a good read.
So, nerve tapped, while I’d love to say that I wasn’t particularly bothered that 3CR won’t get the deserved coverage due to being old news (after all, their 1st album came out in 1997; around the same time as The Rasmus’, actually!), it does bother me, because bands like this are reliant on Kerrang! for sales, and sometimes it feels like it abuses it, because a bad review or word from K! can lead to the minimoshers having a preconception formed from someone else’s point of view which isn’t necessarily true, but like you say, it’s accepted as gospel!:rolleyes:

Yeah, that’s what I thought at first, and then I realised that I think you’re meant to be paying more attention to the smokestack in the background.
7/10, that’s not good, Rocksound either loves or hates everything! :) I predict Kerrap! will give it a slating, 2 or 3K max. Then no-one will buy the album etc etc. Bleak, but I worry about this sort of thing happening…

According to the brand-spanking-new site, the single’s going to be a web-only release, which would point to yes. But I always thought recording a DVD at that point, before the album was out, was a bit silly anyway…

Isn’t the single meant to be out on Monday? Confused now, you’d think the 3CR site would have sth about it, but they seem to make announcements on the board before the main page…
