Title: advice needed

i decided to learn to play bass, found a teacher through internet and made the first apointment.
since i have no idea whatsoever how to play any musical instument, i would appreciate to have any advise (like which guitar to buy, how long to practise a day, which style of playing to concentrate on…etc).
