You’re Only Massive in Other Bands & Artists

An irish band that seems to have taken a dislike to Graham Hopkins … Apparently he failed to pay them for playing a support slot in Feb, & has ignored any forms of contact from the band, so they wrote a ‘diss’ track about it, ‘Grand Theft Hopkins’, which can be heard in their MySpace page.

Re: Nine Inch Nails in Other Bands & Artists

Just off the phone to TM.

NiN haven’t 100% pulled, but MCD are just playing it safe.

The band have cancelled some UK dates recently, which are being rescheduled for the end of Aug, I presume they are seeing if they can fit them all in.

If they do pull out, TM will be in contact for a full refund.

Re: Nine Inch Nails in Other Bands & Artists

Funny, they announce this after the Presale had started. MCD/TM better start dishing out the refunds. Cunts.

& I woundn’t call it a mix up either, I mix up is when you the missus fullfat cola instead of semi-skimmed ;)

They had adverts in the papers this week, & NiN released a password for the Presale, so its no mixup. I’d money issues, as is the norm …

Re: Nine Inch Nails in Other Bands & Artists

We can dress it up all we want, but FF will be on last & have a longer slot. End of.

FF headlining is more a comment on their popularity, than the quality of their music.

I wouldn’t be too surprised it there were a few Johnny Cash fans floating around the venue in a confused daze.

Re: Graham Hopkins’ new band in Other Bands & Artists

Title: BV Album review in Irish Times.

Ex-Therapy? drummer Graham Hopkins liked Boss Volenti’s sound so much he
practically stalked them until they let him join. You can see why he wanted
in on this one: the Dublin band rock straight from the hip, shuffling Kings
of Leon and Queens of the Stone Age, and pulling the odd ace out of their
sleeves. Despite their resolutely old-school approach (Ain’t No Use ends
with a traditional guitar solo, and the spirit of 1970s rock hovers over
such tunes as Deeper and Deep, Shot and Roll it Into Shape), BV pull through
on sheer spit and swagger, dispensing these 10 tunes with the efficiency of
Dirty Harry. Singer/bassist Rob Daly and guitarists Laura Mackey and Dan
O’Connor make sure their new drummer earns his keep on such high-impact
rockers as Nine Point Eight, The Range and Can’t Seem to Find a Way.

Re: Graham Hopkins’ new band in Other Bands & Artists

the 1st Halite album was poor, kinda like he had a singer/songwriter inside of him that he had to get out.

2nd album was heavier, & better.

Mexican Pets … in Other Bands & Artists

Title: Mexican Pets …

Andy digs them, & so should you !!

Mexican Pets, stalwarts of the Dublin music scene for most of the 1990s, have decided to pick up their instruments once more. Currently in the process of writing new material, the band has already lined up a couple of live shows:

Thu 11 May - Roisin Dubh, Galway (as part of Strange Brew – free)
special guests - Large Mound

Fri 12 May - Whelan’s, Dublin (tickets €12)
special guests - The Coldspoon Conspiracy

Named after an urban legend that describes how a Mexican sewer rat is mistakenly adopted as a pet, the band first got together a decade and a half ago, proudly wearing the influence of melodic guitar-rock giants such as Husker Du and Dinosaur Jr on their sleeves. In 1994, they released Nobody’s Working Title…the album’s spiky guitar riffs, driving bass lines, and melancholy lyrics were well-received, and the band were invited to play alongside respected hardcore acts such as Fugazi, Pavement and Therapy. Indeed, Therapy’s Andy Cairns became somewhat of a champion of the Pets, releasing five of their singles on his Blunt record label. Over the next few years, the Pets garnered extensive radio airplay, notably on BBC’s John Peel Show; toured many times in the UK and Europe; had one of their songs featured on the soundtrack of acclaimed Irish film ‘I Went Down’ and in 1996 wrote and recorded their 2nd LP Humbucker which was released in early ‘97 to glowing reviews including single of the week in Kerrang! for ‘Supermarket’.

In 1997, the band decided to hang up their guitars and go their separate ways, each of them going on to pursue their own musical and creative projects. The spirit of the sewer rat never really died, however, and in late 2005 they found themselves reunited through a shared love of playing loud music. The band is now working on new songs, and plans to kick off phase two a brace of live shows in May. Dan Hegarty will air the Mexican Pets Fanning Session on 2FM, on Wednesday 26 April at midnight

Tickets (€12) for the Whelan’s show are on sale from Road Records and Sound Cellar.

It’s hard to kill a rat!
