Re: Land Of The Dead in Chit-Chat

Well, it’s Saturday, 6:33 P.M. as I type this, and I’m still happy as hell about yesterday. I’ve finally seen a new Romero zombie movie(and in a theater, no-less), and I cant wait to go back. So here is my quick, little review:
LAND OF THE DEAD is one HELL of a good time. We get zombies, and plenty of them, as well as some compelling main characters, a hallmark of Romero’s films. Romero also up’s the scare factor by introducing a new concept: smart zombies. Now, their not doing math problems or yacking about politics or nothing, but, under the leadership of one particular zombie called Big Daddy, they band together and slowly make thier way to Fiddler’s Green, a walled in city were many people try to lead regular lives despite the fact that theres a whole world of zombies just outside. And once the “stenches”(as the zombies are referred to a few times)get to the city, its one of the scariest sights I’ve seen, ever.
Acting-wise, I have no complaints. Simon Baker does a good job as Riley, the some-what hero of our story who dreams of a world of no-walled-in cities or zombies. John Leguizamo is great as Cholo, Rileys right-hand man who has ambitions of his own, and will go to any lengths to achieve them. Robert Joy, who played the killer in Russell Mulcahy’s thriller RESSURECTION, is great as the slow-witted but eagle-eyed Charlie, who is extremely loyal to Riley.
Asia Argento rocks, although I wish she had more to do, and Dennis Hopper was great as Kuafman, who rules over Fiddler’s Green with an iron fist. Lastly, Eugene Clark is wonderful as Big Daddy, a role that could have been cheesy in the wrong hands.
Effects-wise, all the zombie make-up is awesome, and the gore effects that made it into the film is kick-ass, although this film is not as gory as the original DAWN OF THE DEAD or DAY OF THE DEAD. About six minutes of stuff was cut out to get an R-rating and will be put back for the DVD.
Most of it will be gore effects.
Now, the film is’nt perfect and I do wish it was longer(it’s around 90 min.), but it is still a HELL of lot better than sitting through most of the crappy horror flicks that have been released lately(CURSED, HOUSE OF THE DEAD, ect.).
And the fact that Romero has finally made a new zombie feature overshadows the very few complaints I have. I’m not sure where I would place it in the Living Dead series, but repeated viewings will help that decision.
I think I could handle that.:D

Re: Land Of The Dead in Chit-Chat

In a couple of hours, I will be in a theater watching a George A. Romero zombie flick. I swear to God part of me still can’t believe this is happening. I’ll put up a review for it here later today or tomorrow morning. And if I find out when it’s gonna be released over in Europe, I’ll let you know.

Land Of The Dead in Chit-Chat

Title: Land Of The Dead

George A. Romero is finally returning to the big screen June 24th with a new Living Dead film! As many times as I’ve seen the trailer I still can’t quite believe it. Can’t wait, can’t wait, CAN’T WAIT!!

Sorry not sure when it will be making it’s way to your side of the Atlantic, hopefully soon.

Re: Sin City in Chit-Chat

It really sucks you guys get these movies so late(it came out April 1 here). If you like the comix, you’re gonna SHIT over the film, Rodriguiz & Miller did an awesome job of bringing them to life. All the actors brought the characters to life just beutifally. There are reports that a SIN CITY 2 may already be filming, with Dwights origin story A DAME TO KILL FOR in this collection.

Re: 28 Days Later in Chit-Chat

This movie kicked total ass! It was everything the RESIDENT EVIL movie should have been: consistently scary, relentless, aggressive, creepy( the empty London scenes), and just a DAMN good time at the movies.

Re: Playstation 2 in Chit-Chat

Title: SILENT HILL

For me, the first one is better, but the second one still kicks ass. You could buy either one first as, story-wise, the only thing they have in common is the location of Silent Hill. Part 3 still has’nt come out here in the State’s. Sometime last year, I read on a few movie web-sites that there was talk of a movie, but about a month later it was revealed that it was all some kind of hoax. But a few months back, I started seeing MORE talk of a movie. If it does happen, I hope they don’t make a half-assed version of the original game’s story, a-la RESIDENT EVIL, which I kinda liked at first, but I liked less the next two times I watched. Now, I just don’t bother. 28 DAYS LATER was pretty much everything that movie should have been.
