Re: Manchester 27/05/06 in Therapy? Live

I’m probably gonna do Manchester myself too and would be interested in any meet up.

Anyone going to be heading that way from the Sheffield area for a bit of company on the train?

Re: Have you guys tried any energy therapies? in Chit-Chat

I think it depends on what your wanting out of such therapies. Some people need that extra focus to help them take some downtime and that can have all sorts of positive benefits on the system.

When I was in China, I had a full Chinese medical massage thing which was absolutely fantastic. Left me feeling like I had a whole new body and so completely relaxed and refreshed. I think one of those on a regular basis would certainly improve my wellbeing.

Re: The people here in Chit-Chat

hmm well I know I don’t post very often, mostly because I can’t think of anything to say, but it’s never struck me as a bad message board. I’ve known worse. I think this place is very calm and friendly. And those I’ve spoken to away from this board seem to be pretty cool, easy going peeps.

Oh sometimes I hate them damn’ things. Actually thinking about getting me a second computer just for the internet/mail stuff which would then leave my main machine nice and clean and ready for work. I wonder if a lot of people do that…

The best way I’m aware of is to have a second machine running as a harware firewall - way more secure than using standard software ones like McAfee - and run your current machine as it is from behind that. The hardware firewall is just a very simple PC system which has just one function - to monitor all incoming/ outgoing traffic and block accordingly (you set this up). You’d connect to the internet as you normally do now, but it gets routed through the hardware firewall. Adds an extra barrier of protection.

I think these days you can actually buy standard hardware firewalls - a small box you put between your router and PC. Cheaper than buying a full pc but does the same job.

Also, for basic security, ensure you delete cookies and offline content regularly, and run a spyware checker such as Spybot regularly - this picks up loads of hidden spyware crap that sites like MySpace put on your machine (porn sites are the worst for this). They aren’t virus’s as such, but they do slow your system down and mess with internet browsers. And generally spyware does not get picked up by virus scanners as it’s not regarded as a threat to your data.

Finally - back your system up regularly. How often you do this depends on what you use your system for. If you are doing loads of important work - back up at least once a week.

I might start leaving cruel comments, see what they make of that.

The flash some flesh popularity contest that is MySpace does make me laugh. Especially the ones who make a point of saying they’ve had to restart their myspace thing so many times coz they keep getting lots of nutters contacting them!

Of course, I can talk as I’ve got a practically naked shot of my back on there but that’s purely for showing the tatt off - honest :D

I prefer the “Wah, wah, waaaaah” bad-jokenoise, but I don’t know which instrument makes it.

Can get that noise with a trumpet using what is known in the trade as a wah wah mute. Could get the same but with a lower pitched note using a trombone and a bigger, more appropriately sized, wah wah mute.

Re: dirty dancing in Chit-Chat

It’s complete crud.

Way back when it came out, all the girlies at school used to go round singing all those bloody irritating songs, pretending that they were actually in the movie. Drove me mad then and the memories are making me go all twitchy again. Where’s my medication?

Re: anyone fancy a beer…? in Chit-Chat

Yeah pass one my way! Despite getting drunk last night I don’t have a hangover and I’m feeling all relaxed and happy. Another beer would be just the ticket. Especially now the sun’s come out.

Re: What’s everybody reading in Chit-Chat

I’ve just finished The Portable Door by Tom Holt. It was ok I guess, nothing startling. I read it because a friend of mine keeps telling me Tom Holt is really funny. Well, I didn’t think so but it was still good enough to make me finish it.

Not sure I could say if I have a favourite book though. It changes from time to time.

Re: The Metrosexual Thread in Chit-Chat

Manbags - should be banned.

Am I the only girl that doesn’t take a bag everywhere with them? All I go out with is some cash, one card, my keys and my phone (for those times when I do daft things like forget to take keys with me or get on the wrong bus). Of course, it probably helps that I’m usually wearing trousers. And I don’t wear make up, or bother about my hair getting all tangled up.

I know one girl who takes a spare change of clothes with her wherever she goes - I can only imagine why.

Took my kid to see it yesterday. I was pleasantly suprised - it’s really worth seeing. Very funny. Much more sinister than the original. It all works really well.

Re: lending money to so called friends in Chit-Chat

never a lender or borrower be

It always gets you into trouble. Especially if there’s friends involved. Worse if it’s relatives.

But you just have to be firm and keep asking for it back. It’s not pleasant but needs must.

Re: Women of the board: Do beards do it for you? in Chit-Chat

Depends on the guy. Some blokes just look plain daft with facial hair. On others it adds a certain something.

Re: What should I have pierced? in Chit-Chat

You should have it whatever side feels most comfortable to you. Go with your instincts. Most of my piercings are on the right side just coz that’s how I felt they should be.

Personally, I prefer the look of lip piercings in the center but it’s up to you.

Re: Insomnia in Chit-Chat

Sleeping tablets can be good for a short term quick fix - my doc gave me a one week course of some very mild ones once. Just to force my body back into a normal routine.

But they are only a temporary fix. What you really need to do is alter your bedtime routine to allow for plenty of winding down time. This might include things like some gentle excercise, shower, reading a book, writing or drawing, some relaxation excercises - anything really that helps you just relax and unwind (well, anything that doesn’t involve too many chemicals). It’s all about making some time to put the days troubles behind you.

Like marja, I also keep paper and pens by the bed in case I get one of those nights where I just can’t sleep. Writing it all down really helps clear out the mental junk.

Have you all given up? have you all found women (or men)?

After my still suprisingly recent and very harsh dumping, I had a few weeks of being a miserable git, cried a lot, worried a lot, dealt with the practical stuff. Then I just thought fuck it - his loss. No looking backwards for me. So I went out and had a bit of fun, and so far have 3 guys to play with for a little while. One of them may even be potential relationship material - will wait and see.

For the moment though I’m just having a bit of fun, making loads of new friends, and getting other aspects of my life in order.

Have you not heard of the rebound phenomenon? Did I spell that right?

Anyway, my friend has this theory that you can’t really get over someone and move on until you’ve had Mr Rebound Man (or Mrs Woman thing). Someone who is not relationship material but just up for a bit of fun. And the quicker you get it done, the quicker you move on.

Still, in this instance it was more the fact that it gave me an excuse to get out the house. Staring at walls gets tedious after a while.

Re: SIngle Wombles Thread in Chit-Chat

Title: well

Despite it only being 3 weeks since I was so cruelly dumped, I have managed to have one date with an apparently normal kind of guy. He seems quite nice but he didn’t exactly make my heart sing. That was probably due to still being in shock from the dumping. Not quite got myself adjusted to single life again yet. Still, it was a great confidence booster.

Almost the weekend though. Might even convince some friends to stop being such boring old farts and come out with me.

Very quick witted. And annoyingly just the kind of thing my bloke would have said to cheer me up. Still, it did bring a very small smile to my face.

Not as much as this though: http://www.hayseed-dixie.com Check out some of their tasters. I’m sure I’ve heard this before but had forgotten about it.

Also, listened to my Chinese punk that I bought over there (all recommended by the person in the record shop - China’s top punk bands even if I haven’t got a clue what they’re called). It’s all very 1980’s sounding. Very odd stuff. But at under £10 for 5 CD’s I’m not too pissed off with my purchases.

Re: SIngle Wombles Thread in Chit-Chat

Yes the RAM from my PC. And my battery charger and all the rechargeable batteries. No note, nothing. I’d fucking been with the guy for ages, caring for him after a bad motorbike accident.

I finally get my PC up and running to find that he sent an email to my home email - not my hotmail which I could access anywhere. Saying he’s all depressed and needs to get his head sorted. Needs a fucking kick the gonads if you ask me.

Still, China was nice, in a very odd kind of way, and I picked up some cd’s full of Chinese punk bands. But my luggage went missing and it’s only just arrived. So I’m going to see what they sound like.

Charity Gig Thursday 9th in Other Bands & Artists

Title: Charity Gig Thursday 9th

Some local Sheffield rock bands are doing a gig at The Grapes on Trippet Lane on Thursday 9th to raise money for Mencap. Doors at 8pm, tickets £2. If you only go just to support the local gigging scene then that would be just brilliant.
